Summary
Episode 6 of Invincible Season 2 has some hilarious moments and enjoyable action but mostly focuses on everyone’s struggle to balance work and personal lives.
Episode 6 of Invincible Season 2 picks up immediately where Episode 5 left off, with the characters in different precarious positions. Invincible and the team assigned to beat the Sequids are slowly being overwhelmed, and Rex is the only one left alive against the Lizard League.
This action-heavy start gives way to an exploration of how hard it is to find a balance between a superhero and a normal life, mainly through Mark and Amber’s flailing relationship but also through the other heroes. Robot/Rudy can’t give Amanda a break from trying to fix her, and Immortal finds out what true love is.
King Lizard shoots Rex, killing him. It’s a cold start to the episode. In space, the team keeps Eve and Rudy safe from the Sequids but becomes overwhelmed. Shapesmith uses his body to cover them, and Rudy passes through his improved device to stop the Sequids. It needs to go off next to Rus.
Invincible volunteers for the task, and Immortal covers him. The Sequids completely overpower Shapesmith, leaving Eve and Rudy vulnerable. Invincible manages to set the device off next to Rus, freeing him and seemingly winning the battle. This victory is just a breather, however, as the Sequids gain control of Eve and Rudy. They split up, but Immortal and Invincible quickly bring them back together and stop the Sequids.
What happens to King Lizard?
They run towards the hangar with a scared and confused Rus. On Earth, King Lizard is issuing demands over the phone, saying the Guardians are dead. But Rex gets up and punches King Lizard to death. Global Defense Agency (GDA) soldiers walk in, and ask if Rex is OK. He says he’s fine, but immediately passes out. Shrinking Rae stumbles out of a Lizard League goon’s intestines, still alive.
Several Martians demand that Shapesmith pay for his crimes of unleashing the Sequids, but Invincible is unwilling to accept this. It results in a hilarious chase of Martian fighters. Rudy can’t fly it well and Shapesmith is no help, as he’s only been in one on a school trip. Invincible hops out and non-lethally destroys the Martian fighters. When he returns, Eve hugs him. Amanda asks how Rudy is, and he’s pleased he’s fixed his fear response, and says he can fix Amanda’s aging issues too. She becomes frustrated and walks off.
Cecil updates Debbie on Mark’s success but is really there to take control of Mark’s brother. Debbie rejects his help and, for now, Cecil admits defeat. At the GDA, Rus is welcomed back. The team walks into Donald, who fills them in on the tragedy that’s befallen the Guardians against the Lizard League. Immortal mourns Kate, and Mark spots that Eve is upset about Rex’s condition. He later tells Amber.
Kate’s Funeral
At home, Debbie praises Mark’s brother for playing with his toys. She names him Oliver, after Mark’s Grandpa, which surprises Mark. At Kate’s funeral, Immortal gives a touching eulogy. Afterward, Black Samson compliments Immortal’s heartfelt speech, explaining Immortal feels this because he truly loved her.
Mark and Amber have an awkward coffee, making small talk like it’s a bad first date. Amber admits she hates lying to cover for Mark’s superheroics and feels like she’s got no one she can talk to about dating a superhero. Mark returns to his dorm and finds Rick has recovered. When William and Rick leave, Donald tells Mark that Rick went through intense body reconstruction, so he’ll be checking in regularly.
Rex has Mark visit him and admits that when he saw his life flash before his eyes, he hated how he treated women. Mark opens up about his girl troubles. When Mark leaves he runs into Eve but doesn’t chat. She’s on her way to see Rex and drop him some decoration magazines. He lets slip Mark has girl trouble, but won’t go into detail.
Debbie Hires A Nanny
Debbie throws out a nanny candidate for Oliver, as she realizes it’s a ploy by Cecil. Another applicant shows up immediately, admitting Cecil sent her. This honesty impresses Debbie, who hears her out, but still has reservations about it. The nanny, April Housem, says her loyalty is to Debbie, not Cecil. Debbie hires her.
Cecil visits Eve, thanking her for her help. He asks Eve to join the Guardians, but she declines, saying she’s still figuring things out. He leaves disgruntled. Amber shows up to talk about her boyfriend, and Mark visits Art to talk about his girlfriend. Amber says she feels lonely, and Mark fears he’s abandoning Amber as Nolan did to his mother.
They’re both concerned they’re failing each other. Eve and Art both give them the same advice — they need to cherish the time they have, so they should be talking now.
As Mark leaves, Art reveals Debbie told him what happened to Thraxa. He gives Mark Nolan’s sci-fi books. Rick and William stroll across campus, but Rick seeing the memorial to Sinclair’s victims prompts him to worry that he’s not him. William tries to reassure him that they’ll get through this.
Mark looks at Nolan’s books, one about the Infinity Ray that shoots an unstoppable beam, and another about a planet home to savage beasts called Ragnars. Cecil sees Immortal and suggests he has a holiday as Kate’s death has shaken him, but Immortal doesn’t take this well. A fast-moving object approaching Earth causes Immortal to think Omni-Man is back, and he flies off before Cecil can stop him.
Does Allen recruit Mark to fight the Viltrumites?
Allen the Alien arrives at Earth, and is rudely jumped on by Immortal. He thinks he’s Omni-Man’s minion. Invincible breaks up their fight, and Immortal calms down, and is upset when he leaves. Meanwhile, Amber is at a party on her own. She thinks about texting Mark but stops herself. Allen tells Mark about Thaedus’ identity and urges Mark to join the fight against the Viltrumites.
Mark declines citing his personal struggles, but does show Allen Nolan’s books. Nolan has detailed weapons the Viltrumites are vulnerable to, and Allen takes this information back to Thaedus. He says he will look out for Nolan too.
How does Invincible Season 2 Episode 6 end?
General Kregg explains to Nolan that for a Viltrumite to be executed, he must be whole. He offers Nolan a chance to rejoin the Viltrumites, but when Nolan is silent Kregg demands to know what on Earth turned Nolan away from the conqueror Kregg remembers. Kregg says Earth will pay.
Rus cleans his home and is annoyed that Shapesmith trashed it. He sees something that makes him vomit, bringing up a Sequid. It immediately takes control of him again. In the mid-credits, Angstrom Levy gets a new suit and travels through the multiverse to get revenge on Mark.
