John Wilkes Booth is still on the run in Episode 3 of Manhunt, set to debut on March 22. Edwin Stanton continues ramping up the bounty price to capture Booth, but will he be able to find him before he is out of reach? There are many questions heading into the next episode that need to be answered.

What will Manhunt Episode 3, “Let the Sheep Flee”, be about?

“Let the Sheep Flee” will find the hunt for John Wilkes Booth expanding to Quebec, where Confederate spides and expats have reorganized. With the manhunt in full force, Booth was forced to go underground in Maryland.

President Johnson made it clear to Stanton in Episode 2 that he didn’t care about President Lincoln’s want to help the Blacks. However, Stanton looked President Johnson in the face and threatened him by saying he could start to point the finger at him if he didn’t push forward with the Emancipation Proclamation.

If the story follows history, we could start to see President Johnson reconstruct the former Confederate States in the series as he did in 1865 when Congress was not in session. This would spark some controversy, and that pushback would lead to more confrontation between him and Stanton.

Will Stanton’s display of President Lincoln work?

Stanton’s son came up with the idea of bringing President Lincoln’s body across the United States to remind everyone of who they lost in hopes that people wouldn’t lose sight of the plan. I expect that Stanton’s plan works, with him reminding folks of the actions of John Wilkes Booth while also giving that nudge to ensure everyone continues to fight for what Lincoln was fighting — and died — for.

Why does Booth end up back in Maryland?

At the end of Episode 2, Booth and Herold meet a Black man who plans on taking them to Rich Hill. However, they must pass a dangerous town before they get there. Obviously, we know they make it through, but at what cost?

Also, the synopsis of the episode tells us that Booth goes underground to Maryland. If the show follows the real-life story, Booth and Herold end up back in Maryland after they attempt to cross the Potomac River into Virginia but get lost and land back in Maryland.

Who directs “Let the Sheep Flee”?

Carl Franklin directed the first two episodes of Manhunt. As we shift into Episode 3, John Dahl is in the director’s chair. You might recognize Dahl’s work on two cult classics, Rounders and Joy Ride.

More recently Dahl has been behind the camera for many of your favorite TV shows like Justified, Dexter, True Blood, and Ray Donovan.
