Curb Your Enthusiasm will be particularly poignant in Episode 8 of its final season, since “The Colostomy Bag” will feature Richard Lewis in one of his final on-screen appearances. The comedian and actor, who passed away suddenly on February 28, 2024, due to a heart attack, has already cropped up in a couple of Season 12 episodes, including making an on-canvas cameo in Episode 7. He was filming on Curb only a few weeks before his tragic passing.

Richard Lewis Will Return in Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Episode 8
The official synopsis of the “The Colostomy Bag” references Lewis directly:
Richard enlists Larry’s help to buy a vintage car. Jeff secretly schemes to give Larry power of attorney.
Since the news broke about Lewis’s passing it has been tricky to see him on-screen in the HBO comedy, clearly having a great time and dropping gems. He showed up in Episode 3 to argue with Larry about which of them would die first, riffing that would take on unexpected significance in hindsight, and then again in Episode 5 where he was doing stand-up at AA meetings and gave away why Irma left her first husband. This inspired Larry to break up with Irma, whom he had been trying to get rid of for months.
In Episode 7, Lewis appeared very briefly in the form of a painting in Renee Holcomb’s Wisenheimers exhibit.
Lewis Will Also Be In The Series Finale
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Schaffer revealed ahead of time that Lewis would appear in Episode 8, but that he would also star in the season finale. Clues throughout the season have suggested the finale might take a similar shape to the much-loathed final episode of Seinfeld, with Larry ending up in prison.
“The thing about Richard is that everyone knows how funny he was. But I want people to know also that he was the sweetest, kindest man. Everyone loved him. He loved being on the show. He will be missed.”
The finale, which doesn’t have an official title at the time of writing, will air on April 7, 2024.
