Netflix is pushing ahead with its reliable output of international crime drama, this time in the form of the miniseries Deliver Me. A shocking crime kickstarts the narrative, and the series, based on the book by Malin Persson Giolito, explores events involving lost children who can be drawn into a devastating life of crime.

Deliver Me Premise

The official Deliver Me synopsis  reads:

Deliver Me is at once a poignant portrayal of the power of childhood friendship and a shattering depiction of what happens when a society fails to protect those that need it most. In the end, what does justice mean – and is the law capable of delivering it?”

The series will explore the nature of crime, the effects it can have on young lives, the reaction of the adults involved in the situation, and the aftermath of a terrible series of events.

Deliver Me Netflix Release Date

Deliver Me will be released globally on April 24th, 2024.

Who produced Deliver Me?

The named producers of Deliver Me are Sofia Lindberg, Frida Asp, and Fatima Varhos.

Deliver Me Cast

The roles of the two young protagonists Billy and Dogge are played by Yasir Hassan and Olle Strand. This series marks the debut of the young performers.

Yusra Warsama plays Billy’s mother, and Dogges’ parents are played by Ane Dahl Torp and Henrik Norlen. Arrdalan Esmaili is Farid, a police officer, Abdirahman Mohamed plays Billy’s younger brother, and Mahmut Suvakci plays Sudden.

Where was Deliver Me filmed?

Deliver Me was produced by the Stockholm-based production studio Asp Varhos and filmed in and around Stockholm. It is always easier and cheaper to film where the production is based and the producers utilized what was around them to create the aesthetic they wanted.

Deliver Me is Based on a Book

Like so many other crime dramas on Netflix, Deliver Me is based on a bestselling novel by Malin Persson Giolito. The Swedish author is also a lawyer, and can confidently draw on her own real-life experiences to add authenticity to her novels. With her father also a criminologist, Malin has plenty of resources at hand and has used them in her work, including the novels Dubbla slag, Bara ett barn, Bortom varje rimligt tvivel, Storst av allt, and Processon.

Malin is also a regular contributor to the Stockholm-based lifestyle magazine Amelia. However, controversially the author has asked for her name to be removed from the Netflix series. An article in Femina reveals that Malin had a different idea about how the show would be presented, clashing with the head writer of the series and ultimately resulting in the author asking for her name to be removed.

“Unfortunately, I felt it was necessary. I don’t want this production to be marketed with my name,” she told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
