Summary
A slower yet informative episode that gives a lot of good insight into the race and dungeon dynamics of the series.
Despite returning to the Dungeon to save Falin, it appears Laios’ party may have to leave her behind in Delicious in Dungeon Episode 14. Tired, injured, and low on supplies, they simply do not have the means to stay any longer. However, just because everyone else is leaving doesn’t mean Laios will. Thankfully, he doesn’t seem to be the only person concerned for Falin’s safety.
The episode opens with a flashback to Mr. Tansu’s party encountering the party of dead heroes Laios rescued near the body of water on the fourth floor. Although he wasn’t the one to save them, Mr. Tansu collects a revival fee and informs the party of who saved their lives.
Noticing all their food and treasure are gone, the revived party wants to find and confront Laios’ party. Instead, their leader, Kabru, suggests they recoup to the surface.
Fishmen Ambush
While leaving the Dungeon, Kabru’s party encounters a thick fog filled with violent Fishmen. After fighting with one, he realizes the Fishmen are actually his party members, being made to look different with illusion magic. Kabru manages to wake up their magic user, Rin, by kissing her but is forced to fight the remaining members until the fog dissipates.
Once the fog is gone, Kabru’s party discovers a party of corpse retrievers who are the ones behind the attack. He assumes the retrievers were trying to take advantage of them, but corpse retrievers reveal they were hoping to be led to Laios’ party. The retrievers then make a deal with Kabru, asking him to retrieve the bodies of two of their former party members and split the profits. Kabru agrees before killing the corpse retrievers instead.
Kabru’s party eats the leftover rations from the corpse retrievers while figuring out what to do about Laios’ party — or who they even are. They eventually begin to realize the members based on evidence gathered from seeing them on the surface.
As they share information, every member of Kabru’s party seems to know something about one member of Laios’, and it becomes clear that none of them are very fond of Laios and his friends.
The Sea Serpent
As they leave the Dungeon, Kabru’s party is attacked by a Sea Serpent. They attempt to battle it but are saved when another party intervenes. While attempting to thank them, Kabru recognizes the party leader as Shuro, a former member of Laios’ party, and offers to help them on their mission to find Falin.
Meanwhile, Laios’ party is trapped in the Dungeon after failing to escape for the last two days.
Less Food, More Lore
While this episode of Delicious in Dungeon is a bit slower, it has a lot to offer, especially in terms of lore and information.
It focuses on different characters and less on monster killing or food, but it still has the same fun and adventurous feel as the previous episodes. Seeing how the Dungeon and Laios’ party are perceived from a different perspective added yet another surprising layer to this once lighthearted series.
With each episode, it seems like this series begins to take itself a little more seriously, and the way it balances the more intense subjects while still keeping the heart of the series has been a pleasure to watch.
