In a highly dramatic Episode 8, Hae-in’s family were ousted from the Queen Group by Eun-sung and Seul-hee, leaving them to move in with Hyun-woo’s humble family at Yungdu-ri. In Episodes 9 and 10, the underlying class commentary of Queen of Tears will be more prevalent than ever, while Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s relationship will likely take some interesting turns now that they have a common enemy to fight.
Seeing How the Other Half Live
It’s very clear that a substantial portion of the upcoming episodes is going revolve around Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s families bonding, which never happened while they were married.
Class has been a prevalent theme throughout the first season of the show, and it’ll be explored much more explicitly with both radically different groups under one roof. The promo hints at almost slapstick scenarios – drinking rice wine like “ordinary people”, Hae-in’s mother getting her hair styled at Hyun-woo’s sister’s salon, etc. – designed to emphasize how completely distinct the lives of each family have been.
However, while I suspect this will cause some friction, I don’t think it’ll ultimately drive the families further apart. On the contrary, I suspect they’ll learn to understand each other much better, and new, closer relationships will form.
Hae-in’s Family Will Discover She’s Dying
Thus far Hae-in has kept her cancer relatively quiet from her own family, but the news will no doubt spread far and wide sooner rather than later. This will shake up some key dynamics in major ways, though as above, I do suspect it’ll be a revelation that ultimately strengthens the family’s bonds rather than weakens them.
Hyun-woo Will Take Down Eun-sung… Eventually
It won’t happen in the next episode, obviously, but we’re building up a very intriguing conflict between Hyun-woo and Eun-sung. The latter might have the power right now, but the latter has the skills and the determination to take him on in some kind of outside-the-box way.
This is also, I would say, going to be symbolic of Hyun-woo’s efforts to win Hae-in back. There are still deep feelings between the two, despite the circumstances, and while things haven’t been easy and will probably continue not to be, I do strongly suspect their love for one another will win out in the end. Teaming up to take on Eun-sung seems like a pretty good bonding exercise to me.
