Summary

Molly humiliates herself, Arthur gets a date, and Sofia grapples with a fear of commitment. It’s a funny outing, but suffers from leaving the Molly/Arthur romance by the wayside.

You’ll recall that in Episode 5 of Loot Season 2, lots of progress was made in Molly and Arthur’s relationship. And you won’t be surprised to learn that Episode 6, “Women Who Rule”, ignores it completely and focuses on something else. It even goes so far as to introduce another potential love interest for Arthur.

I don’t know why Loot has this weird structure of skipping subplots for a week and returning to them later. It’d be much more natural if it just proceeded beat-to-beat since we eventually circle back to where we left things as if nothing happened in the interim. I love the show like most people do, but this is one aspect of it that always puzzles me.

“Women Who Rule”

Anyway, the focus of “Women Who Rule” is twofold. On the one hand, Molly is trying to drum up publicity for Space for Everyone and can’t abide the morning show dynamic, so she agrees to participate in an L.A. Fashion Week show themed around the episode’s title.

On the other hand, Sofia is terrified of intimacy and serious relationships so tries (and fails) to break up with Isaac.

Let’s start with Molly.

Nicholas Tries To De-Age Molly

Molly isn’t keen on the idea of being a model after John stole the best beach attire years of her life, but she’s persuaded to hit the catwalk by the positive press and, of course, by Nicholas, who comes up with a plan to make her look younger by subjecting her to a litany of expensive beauty treatments.

Since Molly’s a billionaire, Nicholas has carte blanche to go to town, but when has a woman making herself seem younger to fit in amongst a crowd she doesn’t belong to ever gone well?

Arthur Gets A Date

The fashion show goes well for Arthur, at least. It would have been a fun evening just for the novelty of letting him dress up in a tailored suit, which he’s visibly excited about, but the wind is taken out of his sails a bit by the realization that he’s dressed exactly like the event’s security guards.

But no matter, since he uses his similarity to the staff to help out one of the models, Willa, who is going to be late for the show. In his act of chivalry, Arthur gets Willa’s attention, and she puts her number in his phone. Howard and Arthur both rejoice at this unexpected development, but how will it affect his relationship with Molly going forward? I think we all know where his loyalties are.

Loot Season 2 Episode 6 Recap

Loot Season 2 Episode 6

Thanks to Nicholas’s ridiculous treatments and the effects of a supposedly herbal pick-me-up pill given to her by one of the models, Molly thoroughly embarrasses herself at the fashion show.

As if she wasn’t having a tough enough time with social media virality already, Molly’s stint on the catwalk is a disastrous mental and physical breakdown, complete with pretending to be animals, mumbling, and collapsing face-first on the floor.

As it turns out, even as a billionaire, you can’t magically make yourself years younger. Still, while Molly’s laid up in the hospital, one of the nurses thanks her for what Space for Everyone is achieving in the community. So, every cloud has a silver lining.

Does Sofia Break Up With Isaac?

And then there’s Sofia and Isaac. After coming to the office straight from Isaac’s place and forgetting a change of clothes, Sofia has to grapple with the possibility that their relationship has suddenly entered “serious” territory.

Sofia is terrified of being in a serious relationship, and Isaac’s enthusiasm for long-term planning doesn’t help her anxiety. He doesn’t mean anything by it, he’s just excited to spend more time with her since he thinks their relationship is going well. Correction: Their relationship is going well, and that’s what scares Sofia too.

Sofia halfheartedly breaks up with Isaac. She contrives a reason for them to argue, flippantly says they’re over, and assumes he’ll accept it. Through dialogue, we know this isn’t the first time she has done this.

But Isaac doesn’t take any of it seriously. He assumes they had a disagreement and will carry on as normal, and his casual frankness about the whole thing puts Sofia at ease. So, not only do Sofia and Isaac not break up, but their relationship ends up stronger than ever.
