Gangs of Galicia, also known as Clanes, is a Spanish thriller set to feature themes of forbidden love and revenge, coming to Netflix in June. I’ve done the research for you, so here’s everything you need to know, including the premise, release date, and cast.


The official synopsis gives you an idea of the series:

“In ‘Gangs of Galicia’, a new lawyer arrives to settle in the small town of Cambados. Her name is Ana (Clara Lago) and her presence doesn’t go unnoticed by anyone, including Daniel (Tamar Novas), son of an important drug trafficker and visible head of the “Padín clan” while the father remains in prison. Ana, with extensive experience in one of the best law firms in Madrid, has decided to start from scratch in Cambados with the intention of settling accounts with her past.”

Gangs of Galicia will be released on June 21st, 2024.


Clara Lago heads the cast of Gangs of Galicia, and you will know her from working on The Neighbour and Spanish Affair. Tamar Novas (The Mess You Leave Behind and 1000 Miles from Christmas) is also featured.

Xosé Antonio Touriñán, previously seen in Brothers in Law and The Phenomena, is also on board.

Who produced Gangs of Galicia?

The production company behind the show is Vaca Films. The company is very highly regarded and has a reputation in Spain for being one of the leading producers of films in the country.

The company was founded by Emma Lustres and Borja Pena in 2003, and also has a TV arm, with shows such as La Unidad and The Mess You Left Behind.

Who created Gangs of Galicia?

Gangs of Galicia was created and written by Jorge Guerricaechevarría, a screenwriter with an incredible portfolio of work behind him.

Jorge has worked successfully within the film industry since 1993, and you will know his work from productions such as They’re Watching Us, 800 Bullets, The Kovak Box, Cell 211, Words With Gods, To Steal From A Thief, Sky High, and Sister Death.

Who directed Gangs of Galicia?

Gangs of Galicia was directed by Roger Gual.

Previously the talented filmmaker worked on films such as Dancing Cities and 7 Years, as well as TV series such as Fanatico, The Mess You Leave Behind, Elite, and El Gran Salto.

Production Timeline

Here’s a brief timeline of how Gangs of Galicia made it to our screens:

  • Netflix announced in May of 2023 that filming had started on the show.
  • Filming continued over the next few months in various locations in Galicia, Malaga, Gibraltar, Algeciras, Madrid, Porto, and Senegal.
  • A trailer dropped on  YouTube on May 6th, 2024.
  • Gangs of Galicia will debut exclusively on Netflix on June 21st, 2024.
