If you were disappointed by the ending of Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura, that’s good. I suppose that was the point, and that annoyance you felt will hopefully be the basis of an exciting Part 2.
Part 2 is not yet confirmed so we cannot discuss any potential release date yet, but it would be crazy if Netflix did not greenlight a continuation. The second film could also tee up further seasons, bringing fighting galore for anime fans. However, I’ve decided to focus less on corporate decisions and delve into why the second part will, or should be, awesome.
Baki Hanma vs Ohma Tokita 2 — Unfinished Business
There’s no point in beating around the bush. Seeing the two leading protagonists show a lot of respect for each other in their first fight was an outstanding, meaningful moment. Despite the stigma that MMA is all about violence, you’d be surprised how respectful and morally centered fighters are as they perfect their craft, and these two articulated that as they both conceded to a draw, knowing they were in a stalemate after the adrenaline wore off.
However, like the great fights in our world, this world has unfinished business, too. The first part’s ending suggests that both fighters are eagerly preparing to face each other again. Let’s hope the writers do not drop the ball and somehow avoid a rematch. It needs to happen, and we want a winner. Like all great fighters, eventually, rankings need to be sorted.
A New Fight Card
All fight nights have the capability of not living up to their potential, and while there were clear winners and slugfests in Part 1, admittedly (and even by its own organizers), there felt like a missed opportunity where certain moments were ruined (like the third and final fight). I expect The Underground Arena to promote an even better fight card as part of the story to seal off a decent 2-part movie.
However, I wonder if Jack Hammer vs Raian Kure needs to happen again. Their fight did not feel as conclusive, with the two continuing to fight despite their being a decision.
2-Part Movie Could Be In Conjunction With Another Season
While 60 minutes is questionable as a movie runtime, if the second part is the same length, then we’ll have a decent two-part movie on our hands. But it’s also possible that Part 2 could work in conjunction with another season of Kengan Ashura. Whether this would be before or after Part 2 remains to be seen. Manga, anime, movies, and live actions are flexible in this space.
But let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long for Part 2. There’s much left to be desired.
Okay, let’s hear your predictions: I’d love to know what the readers think will happen in Part 2 of Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura. What fights do you want? What theories do you have? Comment below to join the discussion. Some opinions may be added to this post.
