Summary
The finale of Season 4 of Mythic Quest rounds off a good season, with plenty of stories left to chew on for Season 5.
As strongly implied in the last episode, MQ is undergoing corporate changes that are creating significant stress for David. This situation shows no signs of slowing down in the Mythic Quest Season 4 finale.
In Episode 10, “Heaven and Hell,” David is desperate to impress the board from Montreal while Ian and Poppy contemplate a heartfelt goodbye. The ending of Mythic Quest Season 4 leaves ample room for Season 5, featuring a tantalizing cliffhanger that will make viewers eager for more and quickly.
The Board Wants Change At MQ
The finale opens with David showing Rachel, Dan, and Brad the expansion, Elysium. They love it. David has also convinced them that Poppy will be staying at the company as the Creative Director, but they need to prepare for a visit from the board.
However, to further stress David, he is blindsided in a typical corporate scenario. The board sends their French assistant to the office instead, prompting Jo, who is an equal and eager to impress as she aspires to be an assistant in Montreal, to take the lead when the assistant arrives. She informs David that she will persuade the assistant to continue investing in the team.
They show Elysium to the assistant, but he chooses to speak French so that only Jo understands. He criticizes the team and raises the board’s concern, which desires change.
The assistant leaves, creating a lot of uncertainty as they don’t understand a word he says. Jo explains that the board is unhappy with management. She reveals they want her to be Head of Playpen, but she’s heartbroken about this; she feels it’s a demotion because she’s always wanted to serve as an assistant, not be in an executive position all her life. In her new role, she will have more power than David. Jo is distraught, leaving David and the colleagues extremely confused.
A promotion is a good thing, right? Well, some people prefer to serve others. Jo is one of those individuals. It will be interesting to see Jo in a position of power in Season 5; she’ll either crumble under the pressure, or it will be hell for her employees.
Ian Changes Poppy’s Mind
Ian confronts Poppy, aware she chose to remain at MQ after David pleaded with her. Poppy attempts to argue that her decision was for Elysium, but Ian insists she cannot stay and be unhappy, warning it will be hell for him to know he caused that.
Ian advises Poppy to visit the Netherlands, emphasizing that Elysium is merely a video game, and her real life holds greater significance.
“You don’t have to be a machine anymore.”
Ian manages to persuade Poppy to leave. On their way to the airport, Poppy experiences a panic attack, questioning whether Storm even wants the baby. However, Ian, surprisingly and selflessly, tells Poppy that she and Storm are wonderful together and emphasizes that if there’s a “glimmer of hope” for her to be with someone she truly loves, she should seize it with both hands.
Ian is often wildly immature, but in the finale of Season 4, he shows some growth in his character.
At the airport, Ian briefly reminisces with Poppy about the first time he picked her up at the same place before she joined MQ. They hug and say goodbye, and it’s an emotional moment. There’s no manipulation – Ian is allowing Poppy to move on.
Is Poppy In Love With Ian?

Naturally, a finale wouldn’t be complete without a twist, and Episode 10 leaves viewers with an enticing cliffhanger.
Even though he claimed he wouldn’t go back to MQ, Ian goes to the offices late at night in an attempt to log into a computer.
But that’s when Poppy arrives, furious that Ian came back to the office. They are both puzzled about why they are at MQ.
Poppy explains that the plane was in the air when she received a notification from version control indicating that Ian was trying to work. So she had to pretend to go into labor to land the plane—now she’ll be on a “no-fly” list.
Poppy asks Ian a furious question that makes me eager for an answer as well: Why did he come back to the office?
Ian explains that returning to the office without her is his version of hell, but the expansion is the only thing he has left of her, and he cannot fully say goodbye. He reminds her that she wants as much distance between them as possible, so he kept his thoughts to himself to ensure she gets on the plane.
Poppy realizes that Ian finally did the right thing without seeking recognition. You can suddenly see her viewing Ian in a new way.
Ian turns the question back to Poppy: why did she come back to MQ?
Poppy restates what Ian shared with her earlier—that if there’s a “glimmer of hope” with someone you truly love, you must seize it with both hands. The pair embrace, but then Ian pulls Poppy in, and they kiss passionately. At the end of the finale, both characters stare at each other, equally surprised by what they have just done.
It seems clear to me that Poppy loves Ian just as much as he loves her.
MQ Diary
A few additional moments from the episode are also worth noting.
Andy and Mikey apologize to Carol for the trouble they caused and prioritize their friendship. However, Carol has a different idea – a threesome, but she wants to take charge. She asks them both to kiss. At this moment, Carol wakes up. It was all a dream, yet her desires are clear: she wants both men.
Regarding Brad, in the finale, he calls his Polish lover and informs her that he will not be joining her in her espionage efforts to hack data from MQ to convert Playpen coins into cryptocurrency. He explains that he’s had a change of heart because of a lucrative opportunity.
