WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

First and foremost, this article is not a review, but I want to preface it with how ridiculously boring Season 5 of You has started. The second episode is so incredibly dull that it feels like a ginormous task trying to write about it. Anyhoo, here we go because, speaking from past experiences, everyone has loved everything I’ve critiqued as bad.

Swiftly moving on. As usual, I will separate my article into sections of relatable events instead of a timeline.

Joe and Kate

In the main story of Joe and Kate, a lot happens in this episode. We begin with Joe introducing us to his new mindset. “It’s more than just a fresh start, it’s a resurrection.” Joe is under the impression that Kate accepts him, wholeheartedly, including what he does – stabby stabby. However, the episode later reveals that Kate doesn’t want Joe to participate in this behaviour! Too little, too late, maybe?

The main event of Episode 2 is blatantly the threat and blackmail from Reagan (Kate’s Sister). Henry, Joe’s son ends up bitch slapping Reagan’s daughter after she dabbled in slander about his mum being a murderer. Can’t say I blame Henry, considering he doesn’t know the truth.

What’s even funnier is that during a family meal hosted by Kate and Joe to diffuse the Reagan situation, things get a little out of hand, and the next minute, Henry walks in and launches a butter knife at Reagan’s head!

Anyway, this family meal concluded that Reagan accused Kate of killing Uncle Bob and promised to expose her entire life. This would always be a hopeless case for Kate and Joe in the first place, and an OBVIOUS opportunity Joe would take to feed his Dark Passenger even if Kate disagrees.

Despite Kate’s disagreement, Joe goes along with the plan to kill Reagan. One night, Kate’s sister stays behind late (something not unusual); however, the next moment, as Joe is stalking her at the office, a man walks in with a black outfit and a balaclava on. Turns out it’s just Reagan’s husband. They’re roleplaying a sexual assault situation. A little incident causes the two to separate for just a moment, which is convenient for Joe, and he snaps her right up and locks the husband in the closet.

Kate has no idea what Joe has done. He convinces himself she will come around, understand, and be thankful he handled this for her.

However, to Joe’s surprise, Kate receives a video message from Reagan the following day. But Joe doesn’t understand? “She’s locked up in my cage,” he thinks. He runs out (a little suspicious if you ask me, but Kate doesn’t question it) and heads over to Mooney’s and his cage.

To Joe’s surprise, he is met with Reagan’s twin sister, Maddie. Little Skank was sleeping with her sister’s husband. I suppose that’s the price for infidelity **shrugs shoulders** – I jest…

Joe and “Bronte”

In our little side story of Joe and “Bronte,” they begin opening up the store together—you know, cleaning and such. Long story short, Joe tells “Bronte” not to go through this door—and who would listen to anybody after saying that? Surely Joe would logically know that if you tell someone not to do something, they’re going to do it. Idiotic and bad writing, if you ask me. Make it more realistic, please.

Anyway, “Bronte” goes down into Joe’s little prison and starts taking pictures of the books there, and the door falls shut. “Bronte” panics and tries to call for help via her mobile, but obviously, there’s no signal. Luckily, however, the alert goes off on Joe’s phone, and he is FUMING!

“Bronte” explains to Joe that she figured the expensive, rare books would be down where he told her not to go, and that she would try to sell one of them for money. She wanted to make it rain! Yada yada yada, Joe fires her and tells her to get out. But as she’s leaving, she confesses that she’s read his writings and somewhat admires them. Joe panics.

It turns out Joe changed his mind after (to my understanding, I could be wrong) he went back to writing some more and realized she’d made some edits. He calls her back in to offer her not only her job but also the apartment upstairs and wishes that she would help him with his book.
