Summary

Several lines are crossed in Episode 6 of Weak Hero Class 2, and it’s clear we’re heading towards a big conflict in the final two episodes.

After taking its foot off the gas for an episode, Weak Hero Class 2 returns with a vengeance in Episode 6, with several key developments that constitute a point of no return for multiple characters. Things are getting pretty real now, and as we’re learning more and more, the inevitable showdown between our heroes and the Union is becoming a much more tantalizing prospect.

The gang is unified here but ends up ultimately divided, at least geographically. But we have a clearer picture than ever of what’s going on, including Baek-jin and Baku’s past. The character drama doesn’t get as much narrow focus as it did in the previous instalment, but it does colour the background of the interactions, giving the fights more necessary texture and drama.

When things begin, Baku is still losing himself in the Union. With a bit more information provided on his background with Baek-jin, the sense we get is that Baek-jin was once a put-upon victim who was taught to defend himself by Baku. He took the lessons a bit too seriously and became rather fond of doling out beatings, which likely fractured their friendship, especially since Baku feels responsible for that progression. But there’s also something that continues to evade us, which is alluded to later by Si-eun. Baek-jin must have a secretive reason for why he has to make money illegally despite all of his scholarships, and we’re to assume that Baku knows what it is.

The sadder idea is that Baek-jin still considers Baku his only true friend, but the feeling isn’t reciprocated. Is he forcing Baku to work for the Union to keep his secrets under control, or to keep Baku close to him? It’s hard to tell.

Si-eun, Hyun-tak, and Jun-tae spend the bulk of Weak Hero Class 2, Episode 6 trying to track Baku down, since he has gone off the grid. They turn to his father, who Si-eun rightly lectures about how rubbish a parent he has been, and then to Hyo-man, who tells them about the bowling alley and Daesung Motorcycle. The bowling alley is used to launder money from the latter, which is a front for grand theft auto-style vehicular crimes.

This is the kind of crime that Baek-jin blackmails Baku into carrying out next — he sends him to steal a motorcycle, and warns him that his family and friends will pay the price if he fails to do so. But his friends are getting themselves into trouble anyway. Si-eun goes to see Baek-jin at the bowling alley, while Hyun-tak and Jun-tae search Daesung Motorcycle for documents that’ll incriminate Baek-jin.

These plots eventually intertwine. Before Si-eun and Baek-jin can fight, Baku arrives and takes Si-eun away. Baek-jin has live CCTV of Daesung Motorcycle and has sent his goons to head off Hyun-tak and Jun-tae. Si-eun is forced to hurry off, but Baku stays behind to tell Baek-jin that he left the motorcycle where it was. He won’t be working for the Union anymore, whoever Baek-jin threatens. They exchange a punch and part ways.

Hyun-tak and Jun-tae aren’t so lucky and get caught on the way out, but they’re able to fight their attackers off and flee. Si-eun is on the way to help, but he gets a call from the hospital informing him that Su-ho is in critical condition. He stops in the middle of the road to take the call, and as the episode ends, it looks like he’s about to be run over by a truck.
