Bad Influencer managed to get itself into a position where the stakes for the finale are very clear. BK and Pinky need to make 130 fake designer bags to sell at a massive luxury event thrown by Moghel Slay in collaboration with Montcler. If they do, they’ll make enough money to prevent Bra Flames from killing them, and for bonus points, they’ll give the police enough to take down the entire operation and thus secure their promised immunity. Easy! A happy ending is virtually guaranteed, right?
No, of course not. Episode 7 introduces one calamity after another, since it’s important to reiterate that crime never pays, even when it does literally pay. BK has to run a tight tailoring ship to get all the bags made, but even her terrified workforce can’t produce that many to the usual standard in such a short time, so they start compromising on the details and just make the bags look authentic from the outside. Pinky and Lelz, meanwhile, have to convince Pierre Montcler that the bags are authentic after yet another scandal breaks on social media.
The Moghel Slay Event Is A Success… Sort Of
The event goes ahead, and to be fair, it’s a good idea. It’s framed as a live auction in which all of the bags are sold as a way to “free” their owners from their toxic relationships with their blessers. Of course, all the bags and stories are fake, but at least it’s ostensibly a good cause, and it seems to be going off without a hitch. At least until Naomi arrives.
Naomi, invited by Pierre without anyone’s knowledge, brings an authentication expert with her who declares the bags are fake and sends the whole thing spiralling into chaos. The bids start drying up immediately. Pinky causes a distraction by throwing a drink in Naomi’s face and leading her on a slapstick chase through the building that results in a fight. Alex eventually intervenes and holds Naomi at gunpoint until she publicly retracts her accusations.
It still isn’t enough, though, so BK is forced to remove her mask and give an impassioned anti-influencer speech that drives the bids all the way back up. The money is made, which seems like a victory, but not quite.
Themba Rescues Leo
At the hospital, Kofi spots the armed police guarding Leo, which tips him off that the others are collaborating with the police. He kidnaps Leo, while Alex takes BK hostage to accompany him to drop the money off with Bra Flames. If the police follow, she’s dead, and so is Leo.
Themba, now aware that the police have screwed BK and the others over on their proposed immunity deal, goes after Leo. He manages to track him to Kofi’s place and rescues him, killing Kofi in the process. But even with Leo safe, BK remains at risk, even though she dramatically slipped the police tail on the way to the meeting.
Themba manages to send BK a message that Leo is safe, so she comes up with another plan to save herself. She tells Bra Flames that Alex promised to sell him out to the police, and that they’re on their way. Bheki kills Alex and almost kills BK, but the police arrive and raid the place, forcing Flames and his goons to flee.
Not Quite A Happy Ending
BK is arrested, and on account of having no immunity, she’s sentenced to two years in prison. She doesn’t rat Themba out for tipping her off, though, and he also managed to get everyone else exonerated by threatening Brig, even though the department is on the hook for a fair amount of money since nobody who participated in the auction got their money back. Themba pulled as many strings as possible, but BK has to serve her time.
In the meantime, Leo is living with Pinky, which feels right, even if it’s a little sad that he doesn’t want to visit his mother in prison. However, BK isn’t safe on the inside, as Themba warned her. But the problem isn’t Flames having her killed — it’s him putting her to work for him. Bad Influencer ends with BK in her cell, having been sent a picture of Leo by Flames as a “reminder of who she’s working for”. It looks like she won’t be getting out in a year for good behaviour after all.
