Summary
BK and Pinky reach the end of the road in “Twin Flame”, and with their backs against the wall, they come up with one final plan in an effort to secure their freedom and safety.
“Keep your eyes open, and your legs closed”. That doesn’t sound like terrible advice, does it? It’s what Bra Alex says to BK at the start of “Twin Flame”, which picks up from right where the previous outing left off. Her excuse about dating a cop to get intel seems to work, or at least it prevents Alex from killing her outright, but it doesn’t do anything to prevent the attack on Themba — and, by extension, Leo. I did say that Bad Influence had crossed a line there wouldn’t be any coming back from, and Episode 6 proves I was right.
Don’t worry, Themba and Leo survive, albeit barely. Themba is able to fight back against his assailants for long enough that they’re forced to flee, and he gets Leo to a hospital. But he did also overhear what Leo said about BK and Pinky being Moghel Slay, so by the time they get to the hospital to see Leo, they’re both arrested. Shortly after, so are Lelz, Babi, and Dunia. Alex’s HQ is raided, but he has already gone to ground. The entire operation is finished, and BK and Pinky are left rolling around on the cell floor until they burst into tears.
Officially, Themba is off the case — for obvious reasons — but he storms into the interrogation with a pitch. BK and Pinky can snitch on Alex in exchange for the charges against them being dropped. Pinky is understandably not going in for this idea, though, since Alex is a crazy murderer, and if he finds out, he’ll kill them both. But BK is happy to sing like a canary if it protects Leo, even if it emerges pretty quickly that she doesn’t really have anything she can trade. Despite his affection for her, Alex kept her at arm’s length.
There’s only one thing for it, then. Themba pushes to get them both released on bail before Alex finds out they’ve been arrested, and sends them back out into the wild where they can be useful. Alex has to approach them, since he needs Moghel Slay to make enough money to keep the wolves from the door. At that point, the cops can follow the money. But there’s also a risk, once he finds out that Leo is in a medically induced coma on account of being in Themba’s car, that he’ll go after him. And, lo and behold, he does find that out.
Meanwhile in Bad Influencer Episode 6, Pinky turns to her former blesser, Mandla, who hires her a hotshot lawyer whose high-priced advice is to feign ignorance and throw BK under the bus for everything. Finally, Pinky feels like enough of a partner in the business to not feel comfortable about this, but Mandla is offering her a nice life — a life of luxury of a kind that she always coveted. But what she also coveted was acceptance for who she was, and after standing up to Naomi at the cost of her own influencing career, in some quarters, she’s getting that. It makes it harder to reconcile her transactional relationship with Mandla, especially since he immediately starts using all the favours he did her to force her into doing things she doesn’t want to do.
So, Pinky realises where her loyalties are — to BK and Leo. And it’s perhaps just as well, since Alex does indeed go after BK, and eventually Leo. But thanks to Bheki, who, it turns out, wasn’t killed alongside Joyce, Alex’s boss, Bra Flames, has found out what he has been up to and has decided he wants what he’s owed. This prevents Alex from killing BK, but leaves her with the potentially bigger problem of making 5 million rand in a week. It’s Pinky who comes up with the solution of throwing a giant Moghel Slay influencer event to try and make the money in one fell swoop. But with Alex’s goon, Kofi, watching over Leo in the hospital as an “insurance policy” for Alex, and Themba not being able to secure BK, Lelz, Pinky, Babi, and Dunia the immunity they’re asking for, despite Brig pretending to give the go-ahead, there’s simply no way this is all going to work out. Is there?
