After quite a long wait, One Piece Season 2 has finally arrived on Netflix to pretty glowing acclaim. Balancing the brazen weirdness of the manga and anime with excellent underlying construction, the transition to live-action set a new gold standard for adaptations of this sort, and that level of quality and imagination only persists in Season 2.
But there are a lot of elements to One Piece, and after a three-year gap, jumping right into Season 2 is easier said than done. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. We’ve covered both seasons extensively, providing spoiler-free reviews and in-depth recaps of every single episode. We’ve also done the necessary research to help explain who’s who and what’s what when it comes to the Going Merry’s adventures in the Grand Line.
So, here’s your complete streaming guide for One Piece Season 2, which is subtitled “Into the Grand Line”.
Key Things to Remember From ‘One Piece’ Season 1
A lot went down in the eight-episode first season. Some of it didn’t matter too much long term, but a lot more of it is extremely important in Season 2, so here are the things you need to remember before you set sail.
Luffy and the Straw Hats Are Searching for the One Piece
Monkey D. Luffy’s pirate crew, the Straw Hats, consisting of himself, Nami, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji, are heading to the Grand Line to search for the One Piece, the fabled missing treasure of Gol D. Roger.
The One Piece exists at the end of the Grand Line, a perilous sea route circling the globe perpendicular to the Red Line. Nobody quite knows what the One Piece is, but finding it is rumoured to reveal the truth of the world, and naturally make whoever finds it the new Pirate King. This remains Luffy’s underlying goal throughout Season 2.
The Baroque Works Are After the Straw Hats
In Season 1, Roronoa Zoro killed Mr. 7, a shadowy agent who was trying to recruit him to the Baroque Works, a secret bounty-hunting syndicate led by the enigmatic Mr. 0. Several agents of the Baroque Works are pursuing Zoro – and thus the rest of the Straw Hats – to avenge this action, so they form the principal antagonists of Season 2.
Luffy’s Grandfather Is A Marine
Luffy’s grandfather, Monkey D. Garp, is a Marine Vice Admiral. The Marines don’t like the pirates, to put it mildly, and Garp was a pretty major antagonistic figure throughout much of Season 1. However, while he’s briefly in Season 2, the show’s Marine contingent is mostly represented by new character Captain Smoker and his protege, Tashigi. But it’s important to remember that the Marines are opposed to both pirates and the Baroque Works, who are an independent organisation.
Some Season 1 Villains Are Still A Threat
The Straw Hats took on many adversaries in the first season, but a few survived their first brushes with Luffy and may or may not return for Season 2. Buggy the Clown survived in partnership with rival pirate and fellow Devil Fruit user Alvida, and Zoro lost a duel to former Warlord of the Sea Dracule Mihawk. It’s worth remembering both of these things.

Key Takeaways From ‘One Piece’ Season 2
Note: This next section is full of spoilers. You have been warned.
With production on Season 3 having already begun, hopefully ensuring a shorter gap between seasons, here are the major takeaways from the ending of One Piece Season 2 that it’s going to be worth keeping in mind.
Mr. 0’s Real Identity Is Sir Crocodile
In the finale, it was revealed that Mr. 0, the head of Baroque Works, is really Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Miss All Sunday’s Real Name Is Nico Robin
In the same scene that Crocodile’s identity is revealed, so is Miss All Sunday’s. Her real name is Nico Robin, and there’s a bounty out on her head. She also isn’t totally in league with Crocodile and Baroque Works – she has her own agenda.
Baroque Works Are Trying to Destabilise the Alabasta Kingdom
The long-term goal of Baroque Works is something Crocodile calls “Project Utopia”, which involves the deliberate destabilization of the Kingdom of Alabasta. That happens to be where the Straw Hats are heading next.
There Are Two New Straw Hats
While the primary recruitment drive occurred in Season 1, the Straw Hats picked up two new crew members in Season 2 – the ship’s doctor, Tony Tony Chopper, and the Princess of Alabasta, Nerfertari Vivi.
Note: The latter is likely to only be a temporary member, since once the problem in Alabasta is resolved, she will likely remain behind to rule the kingdom.

The second season is built on five key story arcs from the anime/manga. These are:
