We have entered the “finale week” of My Royal Nemesis, and there are still many theories and predictions about how it might end in Episodes 13 and 14. Will it be a happy ending or K-trauma? Viewers are hoping things settle down for a happy ending, but I do not think Episode 11 or Episode 12 did much to alleviate any fears of this concluding harmoniously. Either way, there are plenty of considerations as we move toward the K-drama’s ultimate conclusion.
The Soul-Swap & The Identity Crisis
Episode 12 basically confirmed that the childhood car accident was a reality rift. Young Shin Seo-ri and Kang Dan-sim swapped souls across time right then. So, that means the timid girl who could not act well after the accident in the modern era was the original Joseon Dan-sim trapped in the 21st century, while the modern Seo-ri has always genetically and spiritually belonged in her current body.
Here are some final predictions for Episodes 13 and 14:
- Instead of an ending where our main character is ripped back to the past, the finale will lean into soul integration. The memories Seo-ri is receiving are not just her getting evicted, but her childhood memories returning.
- The Shaman keeps warning that the comet will sever her connection. This brings concerns that she will go back to Joseon to die by poison. There’s a theory that she will choose to be “selfish” and actively sever her tie to the past permanently, so she can anchor her soul into the modern world to live out her life with Cha Se-gye.
- Episode 12 dropped the tragic news of the Grand Prince’s death in Joseon. This confirms that their past-life tragic loop is closed. This means that Cha Se-gye is the modern reincarnation; they are not cheating a past-life lover, but rather saving the same souls in this life.
The Corporate Showdown & “Grandpa’s Scheme”
Seo-ri suddenly became a damsel in distress in Episodes 11 and 12, which also featured Chairman Cha Dal-su’s reckless outbursts. All these corporate complexities bring the following finale predictions:
- The closing moments of Episode 12 hinted at it, but did not fully confirm, that Grandpa Cha Dal-su has been pulling a massive chess move. His emotional outbursts and “dementia” were intentionally staged to make the power-hungry Choi Mun-do move too quickly and expose his hand.
- The show has frequently brought up a mysterious familial debt involving the Chairman’s sister and Mun-do’s mother. Episode 13 could reveal that Mun-do’s entire entitlement to the conglomerate is built on a lie. He could have donated a kidney not just out of “love,” but also as a way to blackmail his way into wealth.
- A satisfying way to wrap up the corporate war plot is to give Seo-ri her edge back – shedding the whole “damsel in distress” narrative to team up with Se-gye. She could use her tactical, ruthless Joseon-court scheming to completely dismantle Mun-do’s corporate coup.
Tying Up Loose Ends
It felt like the pacing in Episodes 11 and 12 dragged because of excessive screen time for Mo Tae-hee (the fiancé) and Ji-hyo, which leaves massive plot holes and not enough time to clean everything up in the finale. There just isn’t a lot of time left.
Mo Tae-hee’s emotional conversation with her mother was not a redemption arc to make her give up on Se-gye. It highlighted her family and abandonment issues. She doesn’t love Se-gye but seeks stability. She could be a wild card in Episode 13 and strike a final, desperate deal with Mun-do, or side with Se-gye just to spite her own mother.
But then there is the random subplot of the spray-paint girl connecting to the overarching time-slip mechanic. Is she a catalyst or a visual anchor representing how deeply the past and present are bleeding into each other as the comet nears?
The Finale Timeline
Here are my predictions on when to expect things to unfold in the finale week, broken down by episode.
Episode 13
The truth of the childhood soul swap will be fully laid bare to Se-gye. Seo-ri will fear her imminent disappearance, while Grandpa reveals his lucidity and aligns with Se-gye to set a legal trap for Choi Mun-do.
As the episode reaches its end, the comet reaches its alignment. Seo-ri begins to fade just as Mun-do attempts his final corporate coup.
Episode 14
Instead of sacrificing herself, Seo-ri utilizes her memories of Joseon to avoid the cosmic alignment. She severs her tie to the past, permanently closing the time loop, while Mun-do faces justice, mirroring his past-life downfall.
And then, like most K-dramas, we will end with the usual fluff. The drama and threats will be cleared away, and the show will return to its hilarious, clingy rom-com energy. We’ll likely get a time jump or flash-forward showing Se-gye and Seo-ri living their best lives together.
Regardless, whether it will be a happy ending or K-trauma remains to be seen.
