Surface Season 2 hasn’t been very good, at least not if you ask me, but Episode 3, “Kintsugi”, provides an interesting turning point.

‘Severance’ Season 2, Episode 8 Recap – Even Great Shows Sometimes Have an Episode Like This

March 7 2025

Severance is a great show, of that there can be no doubt, and Season 2 is on track to exceed the freshman outing in almost every way. But Episode 8, “Sweet Vitriol”, doesn’t help its case.

‘Reacher’ Season 3, Episode 5 Recap – Something Is Holding This Season Back, And I Think I Know What

March 6 2025

There's something just a little bit off about Season 3 of Reacher, and now we've returned to the present day after an episode spent almost entirely in the past, I think I've figured out what.

‘Just One Look’ Ending Explained – Let’s Break Down the Biggest Twists and Surprises in Netflix’s Harlan Coben Thriller

March 5 2025

As with all Harlan Coben thrillers, Just One Look is built on a nested series of twists and turns that gradually reveal the truth of...

‘Just One Look’ Review – The Foolproof Coben Template Continues to Work in Netflix’s Latest Polish Thriller

March 5 2025

We have long since reached a point where “It’s a Harlan Coben thriller” will pretty much suffice as a description of a TV show. But...

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Premiere Recap – It’s Not Entirely Unpleasant Seeing Matt Murdock Again

March 5 2025

Let me just be clear out of the gate. Yes, they did it. Daredevil: Born Again is like the Netflix shows, which is worth mentioning...

‘Prime Target’ Ending Explained – Well, Thank Goodness All That’s Over

March 5 2025

Prime Target has been impressively bad throughout, so I wasn’t expecting its ending to magically turn things around, but Episode 8 is rubbish even by the...

‘Poppa’s House’ Episode 13 Recap – A Welcome Bit Of Focus in the Right Areas

March 4 2025

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's worth reiterating that Poppa's House is a significantly better show when it's focusing on Poppa -- especially his relationship with Ivy.

‘Andrew Schulz: Life’ Review – Fatherhood Has Tamed an Un-Cancellable Comic

March 4 2025

You can’t cancel Andrew Schulz, that much is clear. And people have tried. This Netflix special, taped on his Life tour, was originally going to be filmed at...

‘Paradise’ Season 1 Ending Explained – Cal’s Killer Is Finally Revealed, And You Never Would Have Guessed Who Did It

March 4 2025

Paradise is much more than a murder mystery, but its ending is very much in the style of the classics. Season 1, Episode 8, “The Man...

‘The Hunting Party’ Season 1, Episode 5 Recap – More Conventionality Feels Like A Slight Step Back

March 4 2025

The Hunting Party unfortunately ends its run of improving form in Episode 5. "Roy Barber" isn't a bad episode, by any means, but it is one that seems to miss the point of NBC's high-concept procedural.

‘The White Lotus’ Season 3, Episode 3 Recap – And from Here, Things Are Going to Get Interesting

March 3 2025

At a pinch, you could quite easily forget that The White Lotus is still a murder mystery in Season 3. It’s the only show that can devote an episode to characters lounging around poolside and doing basically nothing and still be considered prestige TV.

‘Watson’ Season 1, Episode 4 Recap – The Good News Is I Actually Liked This One

March 3 2025

There might come a time in the not-too-distant future when I’m able to look back and say Watson got good around Episode 4. It’s weird, though, because “Patient Question Mark” isn’t even a hugely notable improvement over the first few episodes.

‘Suits LA’ Episode 2 Recap – Ted Black Doesn’t Seem to be Learning His Lessons

March 3 2025

I think we can all agree that the Suits LA premiere was a little too chaotic for its own good. The good news is that things settle down a little bit in Episode 2, “Old Man Hanrahan”.

‘1923’ Season 2, Episode 2 Recap – Helen Mirren’s Blight on Montana’s Wildlife Continues

March 2 2025

I know it say it all the time, but Taylor Sheridan’s fascination with animal-based peril is getting hilarious. Not that there’s a great deal of humour to be found in an episode titled “The Rapist is Winter”, to be fair.

‘The Potato Lab’ Episode 2 Recap – There’s A Little Bit More Going on Here Than Novelty

March 2 2025

Oddly, my concern with The Potato Lab is now that the weirdness of it might put people off. And that’s an interesting position to be in as early as Episode 2, since I’m still making a few assumptions about where it might all be heading.

‘Mayfair Witches’ Season 2 Ending Explained – Rowan Unlocks Her Full Potential in A Messy Finale

March 2 2025

Let’s be frank here – the ending of Mayfair Witches Season 2 is a mess. It’s full of action, deaths, twists, and moral ambiguities, and...

‘The Potato Lab’ Episode 1 Recap – These K-Dramas Are Getting Weirder and Weirder

March 1 2025

What is it with K-Dramas these days? The concepts seem to be getting more and more bonkers. Now seems an odd time to suddenly decide that a good old rom-com isn’t enough anymore; there needs to be some kind of unique qualifying gimmick.

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3, Episode 4 Recap – A Major Character Death Livens Up a Flagging Season

February 28 2025

Yellowjackets Season 3 has been strange and inscrutable so far, and it isn’t like things get suddenly clear in Episode 4.

‘Surface’ Season 2, Episode 2 Recap – The Shape Is a Little Clearer, But the Surface Remains Glossy

February 28 2025

The unexpected return of a familiar face is the gotcha moment of “Speak of the Devil”, but until then Episode 2 feels a little too glossy to be engaging.
