I've never been more thankful for a flashback episode. Usually, such things are the lowest common denominator of flat-pack TV storytelling, but after whatever was going on in the previous episode, I’m just thankful for a reprieve from Boy Kavalier.

The Rainmaker has been a pretty good adaptation so far, different enough from the 1997 film to justify its existence but not so out-there as to feel like a different story entirely.

I’ve been a bit sceptical of Alien: Earth hinging so much of its drama on the idea of kids in adult bodies, but Episode 4, “Observation”, makes me think it might have been in service of one thing in particular.

The battle lines are being drawn in Episode 2 of The Rainmaker. Sure, you can make the case that they were already drawn in the premiere, but it’s nice to see everyone’s cards out on the table.

“Metamorphosis” is defined as a transformational change, often from an immature form to an adult one, so despite conjuring images of butterflies bursting from chrysalises, as far as Alien: Earth is concerned, it applies less to the Xenomorphs and more to the Lost Boys.
