War is rarely funny, which is probably why Fallout has always worked as a satire. The horrors of nuclear Armageddon, endless conflict, and the demented factions who perpetuate it – this isn’t laugh-a-minute stuff. In the two episodes of Season 2 we’ve seen already, a lot of really grim stuff has happened, the kind of stuff that changes people, makes them realise who they are (or who they aren’t).

It’s probably fitting that Fallout, of all shows, devotes some time to side quests. There’s an argument to be made that this isn’t the best way to structure a television series, and that Season 2 is already moving a little bit slower than it should be, but there’s a very valid counter-argument that Episode 2, “The Golden Rule”, is fun enough for it not to matter.

Pro Bono is getting a little better episode by episode. You can wonder if that’ll end up being enough – and, given the general predictability of the structure and the lack of a real stand-out original “wow” factor, it probably won’t be – but it’ll do in the meantime.
