Summary

Carnival Row Season 1, Episode 3, “Kingdoms of the Moon” provides much-needed context to the story that so far has multiple layers.

We recap the Prime Video Series Carnival Row Season 1 Episode 3, “Kingdoms of the Moon,” which contains spoilers.

This is better.

It’s nice that Carnival Row stopped depending on the lead cast members and gave the audience some background rather than throwing newly created Universes at us.

Carnival Row Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

We go back to where this love-story began during the war. Episode 3, “Kingdoms of the Moon” opens with a tense start as Burgue soldiers enter a fae refugee village. There is a war coming, and Philo (Orlando Bloom) is tasked with protecting a faerish mimasery. While out discovering, Vignette (Cara Delevingne) grabs him from behind with a knife and warns him to stay away from specific areas.

The next day, she helps the soldiers create a line over the canyon. Philo takes a keen interest in Vignette, offering a romantic novel, which she scoffs at. Later, Philo is attacked by a wolf, but Vignette saves him.

“Kingdoms of the Moon” presents how quickly their friendship escalated — Philo and Vignette go to the library together and discuss novels. And then it happens; while Philo is on a skirmish, Vignette once again puts a knife to him, but this instantly leads to sex.

With The Pact bearing down on the soldiers and the fae, Vignette and her ex ask the question: what happens when the war ends? Philo’s half-answers, but makes it known that he is half-fae, creating a stronger bond.
