Summary

Carnival Row Season 1 Episode 4 introduces a new murder for Philo while Vignette struggles to please the Black Raven.

There’s a new murder in the town, and our Philo (Orlando Bloom) is once again scratching his head. It’s the murder of his childhood headmaster, who was consumed by the monster. The pattern emerges again — the liver was taken. Why does the monster need the liver? Philo faces the monster in the sewers, but bullets appear to be ineffective before it disappears. The critch give him stories about a beast, but he believes it to be too far-fetched. Too far-fetched in a world where he lives with fairies and witches? Yes, it’s more far-fetched that he does not believe it.

Meanwhile, Episode 4 sees Vignette (Cara Delevingne) ingratiating herself into the Black Raven. Someone has stolen from the group, and due to being caught talking to investigator Philo, they threaten Vignette and ask her to find the informant in the group.

Imogen is fretting in “The Joining of Unlike Things” over her brother’s finances in Episode 4 as he plans to get a loan from the bank. She has tea and cakes with Agreus, and he questions why Imogen invited him, noticing that he had to enter the manor through the back door. After departing the meeting early due to the annoyance that she feels judged to be in his company, Agreus returns later, and they strike a deal — he insists that he is allowed through the front door.

As for Absalom Breakspear, he is losing his mind over the disappearance of his son. His wife Piety is continuing to deceive him. Absalom accuses Longerbane of taking his son and arrests him with his guard. While chained up, Piety poisons him and claims that he gave away the location of their son before he died. When their son Jonah Breakspeare returns home, he soon figures out his mother was behind the kidnapping, recognizing her footsteps.

Carnival Row Season 1 Episode 4 ends with Vignette approaching the informant, tasked to kill him. She tries seducing him before launching an attack, which leads to a fight in the skies. As the informant is about to kill Vignette, Philo shoots him. They dump the body together. Later, Vignette is crying outside, holding a bracelet that Philo returned.
