Control Z episode 5 opens with Sofi coming face to face with the hacker, who’s sporting a creepy mask and reckons they could be together. Her bracelet’s missing. Before she can get any more information from him, she’s knocked out again and dropped off back at home. Are we suspecting Javier for this, since he abandoned her after she jumped into the pool? I think that’s the obvious implication.
Raul, very much in the morning after mode, gets a call from his dad, who is trying to get money out of the country and needs him to contact the family lawyer so they can start shifting assets that are in his name. Hearing that while you’re hungover must be fun.
At school, Alex is thankful to Sofi and shows her a video of her kissing Javier that’s doing the rounds. Speaking of Javier, he’s still sulking about Sofi jumping into the pool. Their relationship feels a bit different now. Quintanilla is also annoyed with her since Nora refused his proposal, but I can’t really see how that’s Sofi’s fault.
School erupts into chaos when everyone gets a text from the hacker saying their secrets will be exposed at the NONA. This sends everyone a bit crackers. Javier is fuming about Raul and about Sofi’s kidnapping. She reckons she has all the pieces and just needs to put them together, so the two of them team up with Alex to do exactly that. Meanwhile, the pressure gets to Quintanilla, which doesn’t bode well for his relationship with Nora.
Sofi takes Javier and Raul to chase down a lead — she’s put together enough information to track down the truck she was kidnapped in. Its owner apparently lives right there where it’s parked, which is information deduced by Javier’s appalling “people skills” (nobody in this show is particularly good at the things they’re supposed to be good at.) Raul picks the lock to the apartment upstairs. It’s empty, but inside they find a laptop. Before they can examine it they’re interrupted by someone entering the apartment — Javier glasses him, perhaps pre-emptively, and it turns out to be Bruno, the IT guy.
Sofi interrogates Bruno while Javier and Raul root around his crib — obviously passive-aggressively since they’re both into her. Bruno talks a big game about the whole school deserving what they’re getting while Javier and Raul get into a childish scrap. Boys will be boys.
Some other things going on in Control Z season 1, episode 5 before we continue: Pablo’s “honey bunny” feels guilty, Alex’s girlfriend leaves her, Natalia earns her way into a loan with the drug dealer, and Gerry visits Luis in the hospital — much to the dismay of his mother, Martha. With that out of the way, we can return to Bruno, who Sofi deduces was an accomplice, not the hacker. Javier and Raul both confront Sofi separately about liking the other, which is so pathetic it’s hilarious. While she and Raul are arguing, Bruno “escapes”, dropping Javier — “I can’t breathe, I swear!” — and making off with the laptop. Both Raul and Sofi think he let Bruno go. Javier doesn’t appreciate the accusation, laying into Raul, but Sofi deduces he has been here before.
