This recap of Love (Marriage ft. Divorce) season 2, episode 2 contains spoilers. You can check out our thoughts on the season premiere by clicking these words.

You can’t have both of the worlds.

So many things happening in this episode, but not much. The drama opens with a quick flashback of Song Won and Sa-Hyeon’s last encounter. Sa-Hyeon picked his mother for a private meeting. The scene moves to the appearance of Shin Ki-Rim’s ghost, who was walking towards the kitchen where he found a plate of bread and water, which he took a bite of afterward. I know. Before you confuse your brain, this scene probably visualizes how the spirit actually took the food you served for them, I guess.

After the shocking appearance, we were greeted by a small Pi-Young little family reunion. Yu-Shin greeted them home. Pi-Young was surprised that Yu-Shin had ramyeon. She updates Dong-Mi’s condition and sarcastically asks him to visit her for reassurance, which probably wakes Yu-Shin’s alertness. Pi-Young then offered him a shoulder massage where they shared a lovey-dovey talk.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) season 2, episode 2 recap: “Keep your promise and be a good man.”

Our little mama’s boy, Sa-Hyeon, had a private meeting with his mother where she asked him to end his relationship with Song Won. Sa-Hyeon insists that there’s nothing to end on their relationship followed by begging his mother to meet and took care of her for the next eight months for the sake of the unborn baby–torn between her mother instinct and moral conflict, his mother heavily agreed on seeing her with the condition that he will stop searching for her.

Later, Sa-Hyeon picks up Sung Won who has just arrived from Jeju, and drove her home. Seeing Sa-Hyeon nervously paced out, Sung Won asked what’s troubling him. Sa-Hyeon explains he couldn’t divorce his wife due to the circumstances. Sung Won asked him to cut their relationship, erase her from his contacts, and stated that after Gangneung is their last. Of course, it is not our Sa-Hyeon if he agrees to anything. He desperately asked her to let him stay by her side for the baby. Realizing how her plan to scare him off at Gangneung has backfired here, Sa-Hyeon holds her hand and asks her to meet his mother who is going to take care of her.

At home, Hye-Ryeong confronts Sa-Hyeon about whether he already ended the relationship with Song Won — he responded “yes” half-heartedly. Hye-Ryeong senses something is wrong because she does not expect the mistress to give up that easily, especially when she carried his baby. Sa-Hyeon defended Sung Won by saying she is not that kind of a woman.

Hye-Ryeong helplessly calls her mother-in-law demanding her to meet and move Song Won as soon as possible.

“Do you miss your children?”

As frustrating as it seems, I can’t help but empathize with Si-Eun and resent Ga-Bin in this episode.

Hae-Ryeong decided to come home to pick up some of his stuff. Si-Eun asked him if he really going to move in with the mistress, to which he answered yes. Disappointed, she asked him to take everything and later confronts him for his lack of engagement with his children. The night before, Ga-Bin also asked him whether or not he misses his children, to which he responded that they’re already old enough. Bruh?

After the emotional encounter, Si-Eun brings the Park siblings to a movie to comfort them. While having dinner, she told the siblings that their father asked about how they were doing. Hyang Ki, who shed a slightly hopeful gaze, asked “Did he call?” Si-Eun carefully explains that he came by the day to move the rest of his stuff, which left them devastated. At home, Hyang-Ki stared blankly at the study room where Hae-Ryeong used to be. Hae-Ryeong left pocket money for the siblings. Hyang-Ki refused to take it while Woo-Ram said, “The money did nothing wrong.”

After successfully moving in with the musical mistress, Hae-Ryeong and Ga-Bin happily cooked dumplings while discussing their marriage and so-called dreamhouse. Well, I’ll just leave it here.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) season 2, episode 2 recap: “Don’t expect too much from me.”

“With great ‘mistresses’ comes great responsibility” probably describes Yu-Shin’s situation in the entire episode, as he juggles between his childlike ‘mother’, Dong-Mi, and the materialistic young mistress, Ami.

Yu-Shin came to visit Dong-Mi who purposely putting the push and pull show by ignoring his call. Dong Mi spitting her pettiness by stating if Pi-Young was sick he probably won’t send another doctor in his place. If the situation were urgent, probably, he responded. Yu-Shin then asked him to leave and be a good family man, where he replies: “But you were my family.” Well, he’s not wrong, though. Comforting the upset lady, he offers her to play ‘hide and seek’ while reminiscing about the old day where Dong-Mi would never complain playing the game with him multiple times.

Dong-Mi hides in the closet room while Yu-Shin seeks for her while a nostalgic song begins to play at the back. When he finally caught her they were both laughing happily. To be honest, I cringed so hard at this scene.

On the other side, the young mistress is enjoying her horse-riding date which also brings the unrecognizable encounter between Dr. Jung Woo and Ami–who were at that time wondering how fun it is if he could go riding horses together with his daughter.

While feeding the horse, Ami asked if by any chance they could go hiking together. Yu-Shin refused her offer, setting the boundaries. Ami, who is upset, begins to avoid his touch. Yu-Shin reminds her to not expect anything from him. Ouch.

“The wise learn from a heartache, while the fools crumbles…”

While still trying to figure out the rule of both Seo Ban and Dong Ma characters, their little brotherhood helped to give off the heavy and draggy atmosphere of the show. The two brothers enjoy breakfast together. It was revealed that Dong Ma is the person who broke Ga-Bin’s heart. Seo Ban asked whether he has read the article about Ga-Bin and guessed he had come to one of her shows. Dong Ma smiled and backfired him by asking him to at least date someone before it gets harder to marry once he enters his 50s.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) season 2, episode 2 recap: The ending

Song Won agreed to meet Sa-Hyeon’s mother. He picks her up. At the car, Sa-Hyeon chooses “Bada” which means “sea” as the nickname which she agreed. After arriving at the restaurant, they meet with Sa-Hyeon’s mother and he leaves them be. Song Won revealed their first encounter, her Korean name, which is 42, and her divorce story; of how she got divorced because she couldn’t get pregnant, which runs a huge wave of anxiety through Sa-Hyeon’s mother’s whole existence. Will his mother secretly help the two?

Dong-Mi’s housekeeper shocks herself as she tries to call out Dong-Mi, which confuses her. She pointed out in a direction and when Dong-Mi turns her head… the dramatic music starts.

Shin Ki-Rim, is that you?
