Summary
It’s a hugely entertaining horror film that will excite new and old fans of the horror genre.
This review of the Netflix film A Classic Horror Story does not contain spoilers. The horror was released on the streaming service on July 14, 2021.
With Netflix’s popular trilogy release Fear Street, the horror genre is all the rage at the moment. So, does A Classic Horror Story pass the test?
The horror starts slowly and eerily. Although, by no means does that mean it’s boring. A shocking departure should keep the audience thoroughly entertained. Whilst the visual slickness is evident from the get-go. The soundtrack to the film only adds further to the tension within the Netflix film.
For long-term fans of the horror genre, this film is successful at referencing old classics. The start of the film is similar to slasher movies such as Friday the 13th, whilst a particular scene in the first half wouldn’t have been out of place in an entry of the Saw franchise. The conclusion of the film has comparisons to the horror hit The Cabin In The Woods. All in all, A Classic Horror Story does what some horror movies can’t, and that is to stand on its own two feet whilst paying homage to beloved classics.
During the promotion of this film, Netflix stated that A Classic Horror Story was unlike any other horror film. So let’s discuss if that was the case? With the number of horror movies made in recent years, there’s always bound to be some similarity to another film one way or another. Saying that A Classic Horror Story is original enough to please the horror fans. It’s unexpected and hard to predict what the ultimate ending will be.
At just an hour and a half running time, A Classic Horror Story doesn’t drag on, and the audience will not find themselves bored watching it.
