Hit & Run season 1, episode 5 recap
Assaf continues to maintain that he never told Danielle/Sophie any government secrets and goes as far as to say, “we fucked, never spoke”. Tamir is having none of it; he believes that Assaf provided Danielle/Sophie with confidential information for months. Despite that, he coldly says, “We don’t need you anymore”, and releases Assaf. Meanwhile, Tali learns that one of the men that Segev killed is called Scott Chase, who was a cultural affairs attache who worked for the American Embassy. After learning about Danielle’s fake passports, Naomi concludes that Danielle worked for the CIA.
With Tali telling Segev that Scott’s file states he died in Maryland, they believe that the lie must be covering something deeper, such as the CIA’s involvement. Segev remembers a time he was with Danielle/Sophie, and “Martin” surprised her. “Martin” told Danielle/Sophie that she was missed at the reunion last month and that Aunt Cici may not invite her again.
The ending
Segev and Naomi both wonder why there was a New York Times article about the tension between the NSA and Israel among her belongings. Finding the author of the article, they learn he got forced to take the story down. Based on what they know so far, Segev and Naomi summarise that “Martin” killed Danielle/Sophie and “Martin” then tried to have Segev killed through fear of what he may know.
Tali tracks down an individual called Shaul, who worked for the MoD and knew Danielle/Sophie and learns that Assaf had threatened him. Taking a moment to ring his daughter Ella, she tells him that Grandpa Wexler (“Martin”) is coming to see her. But before he can warn Ella away, the line breaks. Rushing to the airport, Segev tries to book a flight, but after security attempts to reprimand him, he is forced to flee onto a train.
