Summary
Alex forms a friendship now she’s at the shelter, and Sean uses his family against Alex. Plus, there is a clear insight into Alex’s financial hardship.

Maid episode 2 recap
Episode 2 of Maid starts with a flashback to Alex performing at a gig, where no one is listening, except for Sean. Back to the present, as Alex and Maddy wait for the ferry, she is recognized by Nate (Raymond Ablack). He is very friendly to her, yet she still brushes him off; very awkwardly.
Alex receives a call from Sean’s lawyer; she has to attend court, so she goes back to the social worker who advises her to go to a DV Shelter. It’s there that she meets Denise (BJ Harrison), the woman who after being abused now runs the shelter. It’s a nice place, but Maddy doesn’t like it. Although she cheers up after one of the neighbors, Danielle (Aimee Carrero), brings some toys that a previous resident left behind.
In court, Sean has brought Ethan and his mother, Doreen, who are both very rude to Alex. During the hearing, Alex gets confused when she gets asked what her plan is. But with Alex having not filed a police report against Sean, and she was involved in a car accident that endangered Maddy, Sean gains custody of Maddy until the court date in 7 days.
With Alex distraught, Danielle is the one to comfort her. After Danielle learns that Regina never paid Alex for her cleaning services, they go to her house and go inside. Danielle steals Regina’s dog, Mr. Darcey, in an attempt to pay the £37.50 that she owns Alex. Meanwhile, Danielle gets a call from someone she doesn’t want to speak to. The ex presumably. As Alex claims that she found Mr. Darcey in the street, Regina rushes to pick him up. Although she doesn’t recognize Alex at first, she threatens to call the police after realizing what Alex has done.
The ending
Alex goes to visit Maddy, but Doreen pretty much blocks her from doing so. In a better turn of events, Alex receives her wages from Yolanda/Regina. It seems Alex’s situation has tugged at Regina’s heartstrings (maybe). Alex goes to tell Danielle, but her room is empty. Danielle has checked out, aka left the shelter and gone back to her ex.
Alex reflects back to when she told Sean that she was pregnant with Maddy and he chucked all of her belongings onto the lawn.
