Summary
After watching Alex decline in the last episode, this chapter features her escape which will have the audience cheering at the screen.

Concerned over not seeing Alex after she accepted the cleaning job, Regina visits Alex. But Sean answers the door, and he won’t allow Regina inside. He even lies and says that Alex doesn’t want to see her. But as she leaves, Regina catches sight of Alex through the window.
Alex continues to live in misery. It’s made even worse when Hank visits, despite Sean previously promising that Hank would have nothing to do with Maddy. When Alex says she is ill and will go for a lie-down, Sean will not allow it. Sean forces Alex to sit at the table with him and Hank. Things get worse as Sean brings back another woman and has sex with her despite Alex being there at the same time.
Sean gets fired and smashes a vase before he storms out. Alex then searches for Maddy, who is nowhere to be seen. Alex eventually finds her hiding in a cupboard, just like Alex did when she was younger. For Alex, enough is enough. She grabs Maddy and flees. She borrows a phone and contacts Regina, who picks them up and drops them off at the shelter. After a good night of sleep at the shelter, Maddy is a lot happier and Denise provides Alex with free clothes and a phone.
Alex meets Regina for food; at a very posh place, obviously, where afterwards, they discuss Alex’s book that she accidentally left at Regina’s house. In it, Regina got described as “C**t House”. The conversation turns to Alex returning to college, and Regina says she will get in touch with a family lawyer for Alex. Alex starts the college application, where, after logging into her email, she has two surprises. Firstly, no emails from Sean and secondly, an offer of cleaning work. When Alex turns up for work, she learns that the woman is a hoarder. But after Alex does a spectacular job of cleaning the house, the woman says she will recommend Alex to the Hoarders Support Group. As a result, Alex gains plenty of cleaning job offers.
The ending
Next, Alex enquires about gaining family housing and gets herself a second-hand car. It may stink, but it gets Alex from A-B. Alex’s family lawyer Tara (Mozhan Marnò) informs Alex that Sean cannot stop Alex from moving, a fact that Alex wants to tell Sean in person so that he can see that she isn’t scared of him anymore. Alex then pays a visit to Paula, who, after using Basil to get out of the psychiatric ward, kicked him to the curb, now has a new job and boyfriend; Micah. But as Paula blames Alex for her visit to a psychiatric ward, Paula is reluctant to speak to her. Eventually, Paula agrees to meet Alex later for a beer.
Alex serves Sean, aka informs him that she is moving. But he refuses to sign it and tells her he will see her in court. When Alex meets up with Paula for a beer, she learns that Paula is homeless.
