Summary
Life’s a Glitch With Julien Bam is a lifeless piece of work, unfortunately, and at only four episodes, that’s a blessing.
This review of Netflix’s Life’s a Glitch With Julien Bam season 1 does not contain spoilers.
Life’s a Glitch With Julien Bam delves into a famous influencer’s worse fear — imagine if the attention was not on them? A concept that is strung by a seen-before narrative where two people swap lives due to a transformative, scientific event. The Netflix series sees Julien experience a parallel universe shift, and his friend Joon takes the spotlight while Julien has to navigate a new world without being chased. It’s a star’s worse nightmare, but also, for Joon, it’s quickly adjusting to a life of untapped attention.
Of course, Life’s a Glitch With Julien Bam is designed to be a goofy comedy with the two lead characters, who are essentially a buddy-up team trying to figure out why they are enduring an alternative timeline. The Netflix series does not try and shy away from basic aesthetics to demonstrate the scientific phenomenon. It’s meant to be cheesy.
But that’s the main word that springs to mind — basic. The series is unappealingly artificial, but what more can we expect with a story that surrounds itself on an influencer. We must wonder what other small series were written that could have been way better but were not commissioned due to this try-hard comedy series. Life’s a Glitch With Julien Bam is a lifeless piece of work, unfortunately, and at only four episodes, that’s a blessing.
And that’s not to say there’s no belief behind the performances, but even the leads must have known that some of these jokes were just not going to land. The story stays at the same level throughout, with no improvement expected. This is a dud, whether we like it or not, but hopefully, it will resonate with some audiences.
