Summary
An educational watch that could suit all of the family. With A-List celebrity narrations and an already announced second season, Netflix has gone all out on its latest docuseries.
The review of the Netflix documentary series Animal season 1 does not contain any spoilers.
Think that Netflix’s Animal will be like any other wildlife documentary series? Think again! This docuseries, which has four episodes in season 1, has each episode narrated by a celebrity guest! Those celebrity guests are Bryan Cranston, Pedro Pascal, Rashida Jones, and Rebel Wilson.
And whilst the celebrity names may draw some attention to the show, it is, of course, the animals that audiences will stay for. With the four episodes focusing on Big Cats, Dogs, Marsupials, and Octopuses, there’s a lot for the audiences to enjoy. Plus, not only does the show feature a host of celebrities and animals, but it also takes worldwide by visiting a range of locations such as Brazil and Canada.
If that doesn’t quite convince you, Netflix has so much faith in the show that a second season has already been announced. (That season will feature Andy Serkis, Anthony Mackie, David Harbour, and Uzo Aduba narrating episodes on Apes, Birds, Bear and Dolphins). P.S. if Animal makes it to a third season, there should be a guest narration from Shania Twain.
So is this as good as what Netflix seems to think it is? Well, it’s nowhere as entertaining as Dogs Season 2, which got a 5* rating, nor is it a patch on Meerkat Manor. But the docuseries is still entertaining enough to watch. It has all the standard features of a documentary, great visuals, beautiful animals and an insightful outlook into quite a broad mix of animals. What must be said, the celebrity narrations don’t feel like a gimmick either! Each celebrity sounds as though they have a genuine interest in the topic, which is refreshing to hear.
Above all, Animal season 1 is an educational watch. Perfect for anyone looking to learn a new fact or two. But do be warned that whilst the docuseries is rated PG, it does feature some gory shots of animals hunting with some added shots of dead animals. So keep that in mind for any young children watching.
