Hellbound has slowed the pace and decided to venture to different characters. It’s a smooth transition and one that is welcome as we learn the recent impact events have had on this world.

Hellbound season 1, episode 4 recap

Episode 4 opens, showing how the angels coming to earth have been embedded into the culture; there is a museum and families record Damnations.  Families now fear their sins, believing God’s will is for everyone to be righteous. Paster Kim Jeongchil leads “The New Truth” now, and he’s continuing the message. It’s a world of fear and intimidation. It’s not a nice world at all.

Bae Youngjae is the producer of creating a documentary on recent events with “The New Truth.” The production company is under pressure to show the changes in the world, and people fear confronting Arrowhead’s crimes. Producer Bae is irked by how the world has changed, with children in fear also. He’s also fretting because he and his wife Song Sohyun have had a new baby, and he’s struggling to be there for his family.

However, in a twist, their newborn baby has been declared hellbound as the wife visits her child. Song Sohyun researches newborns that have sinned, but nothing comes up online.

Youngjae learns that his co-worker Junwon has been dealing with loan sharks, leading him to a fishing dock. On the way, he is stopped by the Arrowhead organization, who eventually let him go — they feel he is having an affair but cannot prove it. Eventually, he makes it to the fishing dock, but he cannot find Junwon at first. When he does find him, Junwon jumps into the lake, and he’s frantic and panicky. Junwon reveals that he received the prophecy and he’s going to Hell soon — he wants Youngjae to pretend he did not find him and Sodo Loans will sort his family out. He doesn’t want his family to live in shame of being related to a sinner.

The ending

As the angels arrive, Junwon tells Youngjae not to tell his wife. Junwon is slaughtered to death, and the ritual is finished. Youngjae is in absolute shock as he sees his friend’s head in the water. Men arrive and take the corpse, and Hyeongjun tells him to forget what he saw before injecting himself to sleep. In the background, Min Hyejin looks on. She’s alive.

Youngjae wakes up in the hospital, and he finds his wife. Song Sohyun shows him a video of the prophecy that has been delivered to their baby. The wife wonders what her newborn could have done and sobs for giving birth to a sinner. Youngjae tells her she’s done nothing wrong, and he promises to look into it.

This is an out-of-control Hell at this point. Being hellbound has been capitalized, and no one is sure who is truly evil anymore
