This recap of Netflix’s Emily in Paris season 2, episode 8, “Champagne Problems,” contains spoilers.

Remember that pact between Camille and Emily, vowing to not be with Gabriel? As we hit play on episode 8, the writers tease us on whether that pact will be broken.

Emily in Paris season 2, episode 8 recap

Episode 8 opens with Emily in a marketing meeting with Camille regarding the family champagne business “Champere.” She shows her an advert for the Instagram account. Camille reveals her father wants to be the face of the brand and wants to find a way to market him. She invites Emily to the family chateau.

Emily has a random dinner with Alfie at Gabriel’s restaurant. Alfie compliments the chef. Gabriel is curious about where they both met and asks personal questions. When Alfie takes a call, Gabriel talks to Emily directly. He’s clearly enjoying himself, saying he knows her type — “English and less complicated.” Gabriel fills them both up with free food. He’s obviously done it on purpose to make them so full of food that they can’t have sex.

Emily travels to the Camille family estate to discuss marketing for the champagne. She reveals to Camille that she’s dating a man from her French language class. While Camille’s father records a video of popping open a champagne bottle with a sword, he slices off his thumb, and he needs to go to the hospital. Emily and Timothee drive him there. Unfortunately, Emily is bad with the stick, but she has no choice but to get on with it.

The ending

Emily returns to the chateau, and she sleeps. When she wakes up, the whole family is having dinner, and Gabriel is there; he visited after learning what happened to Camille’s father. Camille tells Emily that she thinks it’s nice Gabriel came down and then pries about Emily’s new man. Gabriel enters Emily’s room and sits between them for a chat, which is weird and awkward.

The following day, Emily sees Gabriel and Camille walking together and laughing outside, and it bothers her; she wants what she can’t have. She decides to leave early and get the train. Perhaps she can’t get Gabriel out of her mind after all, even with a new man in her life.

Emily continues to find herself in undesirable situations as she explores a new romance but cannot fend off her past in episode 8.

Additional points

  • Sylvie and Erik continue their romance and plan to go to Rome together. While kissing him in the streets, Antoine and his wife see them, and she has to introduce Erik. Afterward, Sylvie wants to make Erik her secret lover, but that doesn’t work for him. Later on, Sylvie changes her mind, and she attends a social event with Erik and his friends. The waiter assumes that Erik is Sylvie’s son, so she kisses him passionately to prove a point.
