There’s danger arriving in season 2 and the chance of death, so why does it not feel exciting? I suppose it’s because the series has failed to raise any tension at all. And while this is a family superhero show, they could at least give us some sense of mortality problems.

Raising Dion season 2, episode 6 recap

Episode 6 opens with Dion entering Brayden’s mind — he finds a younger Brayden trapped in his old family home, so he frees him. The younger Brayden is scared and runs to his mother. Angrily, Brayden forces Dion out of his memory, and then Dion and Tevin chase him. It’s all heating up at the start of episode 6.

As for Nicole, Suzanne gives her doses of the serum that killed the creature but recommends using it in three small doses. The diagnosis is that in 36 hours, she’ll die, but the upside is she’ll get to spend her last days with Dion. There’s not enough emotion in this scene considering the deadly prognosis.

And then, Dion and Tevin come to Suzanne with information on Brayden (pretty sure Pat could have done the same in the previous episode). Tevin leads a team to find the young boy. Dion explains to his mother that he does not want BIONA to hurt Brayden because he believes he’s a scared young child. Meanwhile, Brayden argues with the Crooked Energy, but it won’t back down and completely takes over the young boy.

Pat has another idea and brings up the super-powered gene therapy (pretty sure he’s making anything up at this stage). David is interested in this more for commercial needs, but Kat is annoyed that time is running out for her sister. With Nicole facing death, Tevin meets her; he assures her that he’ll be there for her son no matter what. He then discusses his last relationship and when it fell apart. Nicole wishes she had more time with Tevin and could see them as an item. As they are about to kiss, Nicole finds herself in pain.

Some of these scenes lack logic; why would Nicole be more bothered about a man she’s just met than spending time with her son?

The ending

As the episode ends, a few things happen…

Brayden attacks Dion in school. Luckily, Jonathon helps out with a fire extinguisher and brings Brayden down. Brayden tries to mind control Esperanza, but it does not work, so he flees.

Pat, Kat, and Suzanne continue to work on Powered DNA strands, but then, nonsensically, Suzanne takes Pat off the team, and he’s understandably irritated. Pat decides to test on himself in his holding cell.

The episode ends with Dion learning that his mother is dying; he tries to heal her, but it doesn’t work, thus leading to a potential emotional penultimate chapter.

Additional notes

  • Esperanza is still worried about her singing, but Nicole gives her advice.
