Summary

A vast improvement from episode 1. The format of Murderville is easier to understand, and the story of Cora’s murder is quite enjoyable.

Murderville season 1, episode 2 recap

In the second episode of Murderville, Terry Seattle carries his Aunt Vivian’s urn. Whilst she died in 2009, he has so far failed to scatter her ashes (mainly due to his previous attempt to do a Tokyo drive). To take his mind off it, Rhonda introduces Terry to his new partner: football star Marshawn Lynch. First thing’s first, Marshawn wants to change his name to Detective Bagabi*ch.

Rhonda tells Terry there’s been a murder! 84-year-old legendary doll designer Cora Worthington has been murdered in her mansion. After they visit the city morgue and inspect the body, Amber Kand tells them that Cora’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the right temple, with the murder weapon being a Tommy Tuxedo (a doll that Cora created). Amber adds that as Cora was facing her killer, she determines that the killer was left-handed; whilst there was also a tophat-shaped dent in Cora’s skull.

In the mansion, the killer also spraypainted, “Now how mutch do you lov him, Mom?”, highlighting that Cora’s killer is a terrible speller. And whilst normally CCTV footage would mean the killer is easy to catch, there’s one major problem. The killer is one of Cora’s three identical triplets.

First of all, Terry and Marshawn prepare to question Charles Worthington, the son who has been running the Tommy Tuxedo business since Cora retired. During the questioning, Charles says that Cora’s a mean old woman; and when he last saw her two days ago, she rejected his redesigns of Tommy Tuxedo. Even more interesting is that Charles can’t spell “dab”; does that mean he is the killer?

Next, Terry and Marshawn travel 200 feet underground to visit their next suspect, Chester Worthington. Despite the family wealth, Chester has renounced his family and since become a doomsday prepper. In the bunker, alarms ring out, so Chester jumps out with his mask and bat (it appears that Chester swings the bat with his left hand). And the last time that he saw his Mom was when she was suing him in a bid to have him leave the bunker. Chester wants Marshawn’s help! As Chester creates his own currency, he wants Marshawn on the million-dollar note!

Furthermore, it’s now time to visit the third suspect, Chadd (a failed influencer). Even so, he has still made a large number of debts on the family name. With Cora dead, Chadd is about to receive a large chunk of inheritance. Is that motive? Marshawn poses as a dealer and attends Chadd’s weekly blackjack game where Chadd reveals that he is very happy that Cora is dead.

The ending

With the investigation over, it’s time for Marshawn to decide who the killer is. So, he and Terry lure the three suspects to the mansion under the ruse of a will reading. Although, instead, “one of them was about to inherit life in prison”. Marshawn chooses Charles as the killer, stating that Charles has a black hoodie and could spell.

Rhonda reveals he is 100% incorrect. The killer is Chester! Chester is the only sibling who calls Cora “Mom”, he has a black hoodie in the bunker, swings the bat left-handed, and is a terrible speller. As Marshawn fails to guess the correct killer, he, as a result, no longer has a job.
