Summary
As we enter the back half of the season, “Find It In Your Heart” makes good progress in several areas.

We’ve made it into the back half of the season, and I think it’s fair to say that the drama is ramping up a little to accommodate. By this point, there’s a very clear sense of the subplots and dynamics we’re really committing to, and they come to the fore here in some interesting ways. So, without further ado, let’s see how things shake out in “Find It In Your Heart.”
Sweet Magnolias season 2, episode 6 recap
With a title like that, it’s no wonder really that this episode is largely about kindness and understanding in various forms. One way in which this manifests is through Noreen, who approaches Maddie at the spa for permission to see Kyle again, and after initially refusing outright, Maddie quickly softens and allows Noreen to visit, knowing it’ll be good for Kyle. And it is. What she probably wasn’t expecting, though, was that it’d also be good for her, in a sense. Noreen apologizes to her very contritely about her affair with Bill, and how she should have known better, and you can tell she means it. Maddie doesn’t know how to take it, understandably, but she hears it, at the very least.
Another person who turns out to be good for Kyle is Cal, who offers to help out with his physical therapy and does so largely by giving him the harsh truth that Maddie wants to protect him from — life is full of pain, and if he wants to get anywhere he’s going to have to handle it. Taking the easy way out will only spite him in the future. This is the first time in the season that I’ve really felt as though Kyle is actually listening to what someone is telling him, so that’s a start.
For once, it’s Ty who seems like the petulant, idiotic Townsend kid, and for good reason. Jackson spends the entirety of “Find It In Your Heart” charming Annie, and Ty spends the entirety of it angrily watching him do so, despite the fact that he has CeCe right in front of him. She rightly walks away from him, and the next day she stands him up, so it looks like he’s going to have to choose who he wants sooner rather than later.
As for the subplot involving the magnolias taking on the mayor, that gets a little development here. When they attempt to see him directly they’re turned away by his no-nonsense secretary, so instead, they come up with a plan to gather 3000 signatures in order to oust him — a plan which apparently has some historical precedent. We’ll see.
The big moment of “Find It In Your Heart” is Helen and Erik finally getting together — maybe, anyway. They make a big song and dance — literally — about their connection at Howie’s birthday party, and Helen finally plucks up the courage to tell Erik that she doesn’t want their friendship to remain just a friendship. She even tells him of her desire to get pregnant. And it’s at that point that Erik says he has something to tell her, though we don’t learn what.
In a double cliffhanger, Noreen also goes into labor. Things are heating up.
