Still reeling from that shocking episode 7 final scene, viewers are thrown right back in there. Anders has just slit poor Cassandra’s throat and she’s now drowning in her own blood. The Professor boasts about wanting to do that for the longest time and then he makes a quick getaway. For a large, older gent he dodges Percy’s shots like a ninja and then scurries off into an adjoining room. No time is wasted in this episode, the gang break into Anders’ quarters and a fight commences.
The Legend Of Vox Machina season 1, episode 8 recap
Providing a quick answer to that strange episode title, Anders flashes his silver tongue, apparently a present from the demonic Delilah. With one lick of the lips and a single flash of the tongue he can control any object or enemy. The evil opponent sends forth giant knights to battle the Vox Machina in his place. They put up a fair fight, but decide it would be much easier to just kill Anders, cutting out the middle man. That silver-tongued scoundrel spots this a mile off and decides to possess Grog instead.
Seeing Grog controlled by Anders, ready to kill his closest friends, it really hits home. It’s a real testament to the filmmakers. We’ve grown to love these characters and this sorry scenario is excruciatingly sad to observe. The Vox Machina are weary to attack, they don’t want to harm their dear friend, but they have no other choice. It isn’t long though before all the gang are possessed and Percy is outnumbered. The animation is beautiful in these tense scenes. The dead expressionless faces, Anders’ moonlit museum as a warzone.
The ending
The battle ends in sheer bloody mayhem and with possibly the best death scene of the season so far. Meanwhile, Delilah Briarwood (remember her?) casts another unholy spell and summons more of the undead to do her bidding. How convenient, to have an endless army of zombies to rely upon at any given moment. These skeletal beasts make their way over to Whitestone as our valiant hero Scanlan strolls home. The quick-witted gnome has been quite absent from this episode, but returns just in time for another hilarious closing scene. He witnesses the oncoming zombie army and races to tell the gang.
When most shows are reaching their impending finale by episode 8, The Legend Of Vox Machina just keeps on going. Things are just warming up for this unique series. This is another consistent episode, which features complex fight scenes and more side-splitting witticisms. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get repetitive.
