The Boys Presents: Diabolical season 1, episode 4 recap

Cherry (played by Saturday Night Live veteran Nasim Pedrad) is the kind of girl every guy in her building falls in love with. For example, take the dog walker Boyd (Eliot Glazer of Broad City, Teachers, and New Girl fame). He has longed for her from afar. So, when he sees her boyfriend treat her horribly and throw her out of the car, he wants to make his move. But he trips outside his door and crawls back in just as Cherry sees him drag in his feet covered in white tube socks.

He knows Cherry loves social media. He sees her post a picture of herself with an app that washes some lines away and puts fake kittens around her. In contrast, Boyd lacks confidence. You see, social media apps like this lead to Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), which is prevalent in 17% of all adolescents. So, he uses The Boys app to make himself look like a Homelander.

He goes to a company that can help give him the inner confidence that will make him handsome on the outside. A scientist named Vik (voiced by Kumail Nanjiani) will do that for him. He tells him to rub all this glowing blue s**t all over his face. He now has to imagine the very best version of his face. It hurts, and it works. He now looks like a younger version of Homelander with more muscles and fewer wrinkles.

Vik is amazed it worked, which doesn’t bring confidence to the situation. So, they give him a jar of the stuff and tell him to reapply when needed. This gets him a date with Cherry. And things go very well. They do it all over the apartment… building. When they wake up the following day, Boyd finds that Cherry used some creams and turned into a p***y cat.

It turns out, this is what Cherry always wanted to be. She loves her whiskers, her pointy ears, and her bushy tail. They both then turn into the following social media sensation. They are having their pictures taken all over the world. Until all the attention ruins them, they are sponsored by Vought, but everything goes to hell. They start to cheat on each other and do handfuls of cocaine and pills. Their fans soon turn on them, letting go of their sponsorship.

They then fistfight over the last bit of the good blue stuff. When they break up and weed themselves off the property, Cherry delivers a letter to Boyd at apartment 3D. She tries to cover those freckles, but Boyd tells her not to. They look at each other’s eyes and embrace. All is now right with the world.

Except for the fact that it was all in Boyd’s head. The show now cuts back to when the shy guy first put on the aqua grease. His face looks like he has had a stroke. Vik asks his fellow scientist how much Compound V he put in it?

Boyd’s head then explodes.
