Minx season 1, episode 3 recap
As Joyce arrives to work, she sees that the cops are raiding the Bottom Dollar. While she freaks out, we come to find out this isn’t the first time they have been raided. Doug knows this is another shake-down and he lets us know they pay a minor fine and get their stuff back. However, there is a new councilwoman in town and she is here to cause mass issues for Doug and those who run businesses like his. The paying off isn’t going to happen with her and they aren’t getting their stuff back.
After the raid, Joyce tries to find relevant articles for the upcoming magazine. Unfortunately, the team makes light of some of the articles she had in mind, which makes her frustrated that they aren’t taking her seriously enough.
Ophelia Lovibond is killing this role of Joyce. The struggles of writing, prioritizing, deadlines, putting something meaningful together are something we all can relate to watching her in the part. Lovibond’s sense of urgency in conveying all of this with conviction makes Joyce so much more relatable.
A meeting between the councilwoman and Joyce doesn’t go as Joyce planned, but it finally leads to the creative juices flowing to finally nail down the first magazine.
The ending
The councilwoman is winning the war with Doug, which is leading him to consider alternative ways to get her on his side. While this happens, Joyce shows up to the councilwoman’s girl scout meeting, and things go wild. An accidental handing off of the penis matching game created by the team back at the office to one of the kids sparks Joyce’s initiative to reel back the team with some fresh ideas.
Joyce goes back and pleads with the team to work with her to create the magazine. The magazine finally comes together, much to the surprise of Doug and he loves it. After seeing it, Joyce heads over to Shelly’s house to beg for forgiveness and offer her a job at Minx.
The end of the episode shows Doug and Tina at the bar, where she slides over some papers that have some dirt on the councilwoman. Tina is one of the people I do not think we have seen all of what she is capable of and this is only the beginning for this character.
