Last episode we saw the raid of the Bottom Dollar take a toll on the entire office after Doug found out that the new councilwoman wasn’t taking any of the bribes. Joyce struggled to put together the magazine until she found some inspiration in a much-needed place. Will the momentum continue for Joyce? Will Doug still butt heads with the councilwoman?
Minx season 1, episode 4 recap
The magazine’s launch is here and Shane (our firefighter) is the face of the magazine and Joyce is trying to prepare him for the upcoming press conference. But unfortunately, it is not going well because she wants to prepare him for questions he will likely not answer.
Tina and Doug are having a conversation about the books and apparently, 50 thousand dollars are missing. (Side note: I will say I called Doug shadiness would creep up on this show at some point.) I believe we are on the verge of something big happening with Doug owing someone money.
We see more back and forth banter between Joyce and Shane (firefighter) about the press conference, leading to the two sleeping together. Then, she showed up at the office and EVERYONE (including us) knew that she slept with Shane.
The money is missing and Tina and Doug are on the hunt for it and they are trying to find out who may be skimming from the top, so they interview the entire staff.
Next, we see Joyce breaking the news to Shane about how they can’t be in any more than just a casual relationship. And well, this leads to the relationship being even more casual (sex in the bathroom). The banter between these two is fun and it’s crazy to think that this (Taylor Zakhar Perez as Shane) is Marco from The Kissing Booth.
The press conference is going about as Doug expected with questions about sexual things, which leads to a question to Shane about any new ladies in his life. Shane goes into details about how he is falling in love with the person he is seeing and OH MY, Joyce is ready to jump off the stage. A reporter steps up and asks a serious question Joyce was looking for and the rest of the press conference goes excellent.
After it was all over, Shane walked up and claimed Joyce as his and scared off the reporter, but Joyce had some bad news for him. She lets him know the sex was just casual and Shane hits her with the ‘you used me.’ It was a great scene that highlighted everything Joyce stood for and threw it back in her face.
The ending
The moment Doug has been waiting for since Joyce entered the scene has arrived. As Joyce walks in, Doug congratulates her for reeling back in the press conference. Then, however, she breaks the news that Shane wants out. Doug simply reminds her he is under contract and regardless of how she feels about the situation, she mixed business with pleasure and needs to either be okay with it or fix it. Doug finally got the I told you so moment he has been wanting.
Tina wants Doug to fire someone to relieve some of the pressure and Doug wants Tina to believe in him and let him run its course. I love Tina, she is the backbone that holds Doug together, but she is a sucker for his charm (like the rest of us).
We see the closing with Joyce trying to mend things with Shane and him letting her know it’s not about the fame. As she walks away, we cut to Tina putting the magazine on her desk; Minx featuring Shane on the cover has officially been released.
