Bridgerton season 2, episode 5 recap
As the wedding plans are in full motion, Edwina and Kate try on dresses. Although, it seems that Anthony and Kate can’t stop thinking about their kiss. Lord Jack warns Portia that she must think of a way for them to find a way out of their impending poverty. Meanwhile, Edwina’s grandparents (the Sheffields) arrive in Mayfair. As Lady Danbury asks if Kate will be the fool that ruins the upcoming wedding, Portia and Lord Jack make a plot to sell fake ruby necklaces.
With a dinner with the Sheffields in close proximity, Kate and Lady Mary dread the event. (You can hardly blame them). As Violet tells Anthony that it is clear that he holds no feelings for Edwina, she suggests that he finds a way for Edwina to end the engagement. In the dreaded dinner with the Sheffields, they manage to make several nasty remarks. And when an argument develops across the table, Edwina’s trust fund comes to light. When Anthony calls them out and demands they leave and disinvites them from the wedding, The Sheffields say that Edwina will no longer receive the trust fund. Afterward, Anthony says that he will use the situation to get out of the marriage. In typical Anthony fashion, he blames it all on Kate. He says that he will not marry Edwina whilst constantly dreaming of Kate.
The ending
Portia suggests to Lord Jack that he has everyone invest in the ruby mines, and therefore, the family fortunes will be restored. Despite the drama from the night’s dinner, Edwina maintains that she loves Anthony and that she wants nothing more than to be his wife. So naive and innocent.
Penelope spots Eloise and Theo together, and after a classical version of You Oughta Know, Anthony and Kate go on their morning horse ride. He claims that he will speak to Edwina and end the engagement. But when Kate begs him not to break Edwina’s heart, he suddenly decides that the wedding will take place as soon as possible. That was quite the turnaround!
Watching the fifth episode, you just know that the proposal is bad news for all involved. But if that means that there’s drama ahead, I’m happy to watch. And with a proposal officially in place, that means there’s another Bridgerton wedding about to occur. Whilst it at first appeared that Lord Jack was the one in charge of the scheme, Portia becomes a vital player for him. Are they about to become an unstoppable act? I hope so, they’re great together.
