Summary
Episode 1 is an intriguing story setter with very few answers, which is not unexpected from a Harlan Coben series.
This recap of Netflix limited series Hold Tight episode 1 contains spoilers.
Another Harlan Coben series on Netflix, so expect many twists and turns as we venture through another thriller. I can already tell in the first episode that, on the surface, the answers will be markedly different from what we see here. Let’s recap episode 1.
Hold Tight episode 1 recap – the premiere explained
Episode 1 opens up with Adam’s mother, Anna, worried about her son since his best friend, Igor, died. She has installed spyware on his phone. Her husband tells her to delete the spyware, concerned about Adam’s privacy. It then flits to a woman named Marianna. At the bar, she is spiked, and a man asks her for a recording before being thrown into a van.
Anna hasn’t taken off the spyware and can see that Adam is blaming himself for the death of his best friend Igor while messaging his girlfriend, Kaja. Adam cuts a frustrated figure. It’s Memorial Day at the school for Igor. Adam is struggling to process his grief, but Kaja tells him that Igor took medication that stopped his heart and was not his fault.
The memorial arrives, and the school therapist Laura plays a video montage dedicated to Igor. Igor’s mother, Beata, is there, and there’s a lot of sadness in the room. Beata becomes consumed with anger and shouts at everyone in the parking lot. When Beata gets home, she analyses a photo of Igor from the day he died, and she recognizes a hoodie on the side that is not her son’s; she realizes her son wasn’t alone when he died.
Beata speaks to Adam and asks if he misses him and why he let him die. She’s desperate to know what happened that fatal night. Beata heads to the police station and shows the photo from the day her son died. The police tell her the case is closed. Beata begs them to speak to Adam. Meanwhile, Adam messages someone and states that “she’s not letting it go.”
The ending
Adam heads to a party, furious at everyone for partying. He tells them that Igor’s mother has gone to the police. When Anna gets home, she’s worried Adam isn’t there. Kaja gives her a potential location where he might be.
She follows a few boys she recognizes in her car and ends up at an underground club. However, the doormen will not let her in. Suddenly, a man punches her in the stomach, and she has to fight them off with a metal pole. Eventually, she is knocked out. The next day, the bin men find a woman who is potentially dead in a heap of trash.
Episode 1 is an intriguing story setter with very few answers, which is not unexpected from a Harlan Coben series.
