Candy is the thrilling new crime drama based on the factual murder of Betty Gore (Melanie Lynskey) in 1980 Texas. A brutal killing that shocked a nation over forty years ago, which looks set to disgust the general public in equal measures all over again in 2022. Jessica Biel (The Sinner) plays Candy Montgomery, the housewife accused of Betty’s murder. With Pablo Schreiber (Halo) as Betty’s other half and Timothy Simons (Veep) playing Candy’s husband. The adaptation contains horrifying murder, illicit affairs, and many a nail-biting sequence. Here’s all the latest information on the show and its intriguing five-day event release format.
For Hulu’s latest original series, the real-life crime drama Candy, the streaming service is trying out something a little different. The five-part series will be released over five consecutive days, starting on May 9th and ending on May 13th. This means the premiere will debut on Monday, followed by one new episode released daily until the finale on Friday the 13th (a date which has great relevance to the plot). This marks a whole new strategy for streaming sites to experiment with, but one that I am down for.
This gripping drama was created by Robin Veith (Mad Men) and Nick Antosca (Brand New Cherry Flavor), with the premiere directed by Michael Uppendahl (Mad Men and Fargo). All five installments are beautifully shot, brimming with tension and suspense, capturing the emotions of this tragic but true story. This is a TV event you will not want to miss.
