In season 2, a group of boys is introduced, and the main question asked by Gretchen, and her colleagues are — what split the boys apart?
Episode 4 of season 2 provides more context to what split the group of boys.
Seth is a peculiar character. The series tries to explain that the teenager had a troubling upbringing. One where his mother abandoned him and his father, and it left him with a lot of pent-up anger.
Throughout season 2, Seth is desperate to be liked. He wants to be popular. He tries hard. And there’s a darkness in him that can be sensed from the offset. His quick obsession with his friendship with Rafael was a tell-tale sign that this character carried a lot of red flags. Seth does something unforgivable and sickening in episode 4.
What does Seth do to Josh in The Wilds season 2?
During episode 4, Seth struggles to fit in the group, and he’s embarrassed by Kirin, who jokingly pulls his pants down in front of everyone. Josh decides to comfort Seth and reassure him that everything will be okay.
Seth struggles with this kindness and comfort, and he does not like the idea that Josh is superior to him. While the other boys are drinking and enjoying the night, Seth wakes up Josh and holds him down. He then proceeds to m********e over Josh while telling him, “I’m nothing like you.” When he finishes, he walks off, and none of the other boys sees what happens.
This leaves Josh traumatized. He’s already surviving on the island, and now he’s a sexual assault survivor. Eventually, Kirin finds out what happened to Josh, and the group expels Seth for his sickening actions. This is an uncomfortable part of season 2 and changes the dynamic in the boys’ group forever.
