Whilst Resident Evil is set within its own universe, the TV show still has many throwbacks/easter eggs to the original video games. But seeing as the show aims to tell a new story, with a focus on expanding the view of Resident Evil in a modern-day setting, the producer/showrunner/writer, Andrew Dabb, has brought in some characters from the video games whilst also placing newly developed characters at the front and centre of the TV show.

Who are the new characters, and who are from the video game in Resident Evil season 1?

First and foremost, Albert Wesker is based on a character from the video game. One of the most memorable characters from the game, he met his end in a volcano. The writers of Resident Evil get around this issue by revealing that the TV character Albert Wesker is, in fact, a clone. Whilst some fans may not like the new direction that Resident Evil goes in — read the article “Does Netflix’s Resident Evil stay true to the video game story” for more information — this callback to one of the game’s greatest characters should make them happy.

Two other memorable characters from the horror video game franchise also appear in the show. Although, just not physically. James Marcus, the original CEO of Umbrella Corporation, is mentioned several times in the first season. And that’s as his daughter, new character Evelyn Marcus, now controls Umbrella Corporation. And it is his past work on the T-Virus that Evelyn becomes so obsessed with. Ada Wong’s name also makes an appearance in the show’s closing moments. In the 2022 timeline, just before his death, Albert gives his daughter, Jade, a note. Inside that note are details on how to find Ada. So whilst Ada may not appear in the first season, it looks incredibly likely that she’ll have some part in the next season (If Netflix decides to renew Resident Evil).

Aside from that, at least in terms of main characters, everyone else is a character created purely for the show. What did you think of the characters in Resident Evil? Would you have liked to see more characters from the video games?
