Summary

The finale does well to round out the vast majority of its drama, though it can’t help but leave the door open for a second season.

This recap of Remarriage & Desires season 1, episode 8 contains spoilers, including a discussion of the Remarriage & Desires ending.

Well, we’ve made it, folks, and just in time. Given how much Remarriage & Desires has picked up the pace in its final few episodes, if it went on any longer it might have simply rocketed into the distance. Nevertheless, we still have many matters to discuss and speculate over, so let’s go ahead and do that.

Remarriage & Desires season 1, episode 8 recap

We pick up where we left off, mostly, with Min-ji in critical condition and Hyung-ju rushing to the hospital to support Hye-seung in her grief. Both are absolutely fuming over Yoo-hui’s involvement in this, and immediately endeavor to get to the bottom of the connection. With help from Ae-ran, who wants Hye-seung to veer away from Hye-seung for reasons we already know, the two are able to dig up information, and Hye-seung determines she wants the driver to be killed.

Luckily, Min-ji wakes up, and while she isn’t necessarily “okay”, she’ll live, at least. Some physical therapy isn’t the worst thing in the world, at least not in exchange for one’s life.

In the midst of this, Chairman Son really begins to emerge as something of a puppet master, trying to determine who is likeliest to emerge victorious in the conflict between Hye-seung and Yoo-hui, and thus who to side with, while also pushing Hyung-ju to marry Yoo-hui to protect the merger of Hibull and Lionsoft.

Even when Hye-seung confronts Son – after uncovering his connection with Yoo-hui after watching a video left behind by Nam-sik – with the reality of Yoo-hui trying to have Min-ji killed, he plants his flag and refuses to budge.

Hye-seung, then, is determined to take them both down, and it turns out Ms. Choi isn’t interested in stopping her. What she is interested in, though, is her husband’s company, which she has been sneakily taking control of in the midst of his worsening health. In telling him precisely how she feels about him she almost kills him on the spot.

Remarriage & Desires ending

The so-called “good guys” do get their moment of victory over Son, though, in a sequence of events that deliberately plays out in an obfuscated way, with us at first believing that Hye-seung has been kidnapped and crushed alive by Ae-ran. It’s not the most convincing development, though, and when Hyung-ju suddenly agrees to marry Yoo-hui, it’s obvious that shenanigans are afoot.

Those shenanigans include Hyung-ju outing Yoo-hui for killing Nam-sik and trying to have Min-ji killed. Ae-ran has recorded evidence against Son, and Hye-seung is alive and well. Son is going down. And while Yoo-hui also goes down, the fact she had always wanted to see her illegitimate father’s ruin sugars the pill somewhat.

But despite Yoo-hui’s claims to the contrary, it really does seem like this rivalry is over. And Hye-seung even finds some personal happiness in the wake of it, being walked down the aisle by Seok-jun to marry Hyung-ju. It’s a happy ending!

Well, sort of. The show can’t quite resist teasing a second season with a potential deal being proposed to Ms. Choi, but there’s a part of me that feels as if most of this might be better left in the audience’s imagination.
