Summary

Another entertaining season from Indian Matchmaking. While Sima’s role is reduced, the likable/hatable contestants carry the show.

This review of the Netflix reality series Indian Matchmaking season 2 does not contain any spoilers.

In case you missed Indian Matchmaking season 1, this Netflix show follows Sima Taparia, a professional marriage consultant/matchmaker from Mumbai. And Sima attempts to match up those that are unlucky in love, and as seen in episode one, she gets advice from not only a person’s family and friends but also a face reader.

But while Sima may have had a vital role in the first season of Indian Matchmaking, her presence within the show seems less significant this time around. And this is because more focus seems to be placed on the contestants, new and old, looking for love. Instead, Sima is more of a background “auntie” to all of the goings-on that occur this season; yet Sima is still on hand to listen to the latest contestant’s high demands while seeking love.

As just mentioned, there are some faces from season one that make a return, such as the highly memorable Aparna. From the get-go, she’s back to her usual tricks, and it’s a pleasure to have her back on our screens.

She might not be the most likable person ever on TV, but she sure knows how to make good TV. One of the newer contestants is Akshay; he loves himself way too much, and it’s evident he thinks he’s God’s Gift. And just when you think he’s going to be a straight-up wan**er, he comes clean about his love of chickens. Yes! Actual chickens! And that was quite a shocking, yet funny reveal from Akshay.

If you’re looking for something to fill the void left by Love Island or Married At First Sight, then watch Indian Matchmaking season 2. It has the best ingredients of the previous two shows just mentioned, and therefore it should make for a trashy yet unmissable watch. There are quirky characters, the hunt for love, and the potential for heaps of drama and tears.
