Summary
Things get complicated for Dong-ha at home while the power plays in Korea’s criminal underworld reveal new details.
There’s no honor among thieves, as the saying goes, and this seems to hold true with Young-soo and Kwang-chul, who despite their long history of burying bodies and swearing loyalty to each other, are currently at each other’s throats in the present day. I said in my recap of the previous episode that battle lines seem to have been drawn, and that’s very much the impression one gets here. After recapping A Model Family Season 1 Episode 7, There’s no way everyone walks out of this alive
A Model Family Season 1 Episode 7 Recap
Meanwhile, Deuk-soo has ingratiated himself into Dong-ha’s household as part of the family, much to Dong-ha’s obvious – and quickly physical – displeasure. This arrival feels like a bit of an asspull, all things considered, but it’s certainly one way to complicate things and further muddy the family dynamics at the show’s core.
Deuk-soo is, to Joo-hyun, a way to talk Dong-ha safely down from the ledge he finds himself teetering on, especially given how dangerous the people he’s currently associated with are. His involvement with Kwang-chul still isn’t clear to Joo-hyun, though. But altruism doesn’t seem central to Deuk-soo’s own motives. He might turn down financial incentives to leave, but he also goes out of his way to compile evidence in the form of the contents of Eun-ju’s phone – including the crucial video of her playing away from home.
If it wasn’t obvious, there’s also another key detail that a sneaky opportunist is likely to uncover while sneaking around Dong-ha’s property – the bodies in the backyard. And this, of course, is precisely what happens.
Meanwhile, Kang-jun, who was earlier beaten down by Kwang-chul, is entirely focused on getting his revenge for that. But the whole dynamic is complicated by the fact that it seems that not only was there an undercover policeman in the Ring, but there’s also an undercover crook in the police force. It’s a bit reminiscent of The Departed, honestly, with everyone seemingly playing everyone else, and nobody that can really be trusted in this fragile game of cops and robbers.
Still, things are heating up, aren’t they?
