This article discusses 5 reasons to watch the series House of the Dragon on HBO.

Of course, there’s no secret to why this series needs discussing. It could be the biggest series of the year. However, we’ve decided to break down a few reasons in case you are hesitant to watch this prequel.

5 Reasons To Watch House of the Dragon on HBO Max

Reason 1. More Game of Thrones

When Game of Thrones ended it was like the end of an era. The show was a global phenomenon that took the world by storm and everyone ended up watching the show. Whether you were watching it live from the beginning or binged to catch up, this show became an important part of pop culture. The television industry wasn’t the same after this series because of the level of quality it brought to the fantasy genre for the platform. Other streaming services were not able to keep up with Game of Thrones because of the scale of the show and its production value. Even if you were part of Stark or Lannister, the Targaryens were always intriguing to watch.

Reason 2. History of House Targaryen

After watching Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) develop into the Mother of Dragons for a whole decade more fans wanted to know about the history of her house. She will always be the face of the family, but now because of her, people want to know more. Dany went through a lot and had Westeros look at her differently based on what her father and grandfather did in the past. So for her to move through the realm and change everyone’s perspective, but ultimately fail in the end and turn into the person she thought she’d never become changed the interest fans had in her past. There is an entire novel based on the history called “Fire and Blood” which is what the prequel series is based on.

Reason 3. More Dragons

Game of Thrones had three dragons and we got to see them as babies until full-grown adults. To watch them grow alongside Dany after a decade made the connection to them so sweet. According to the showrunners, there will be double the number of dragons in this series. Fans have gotten a sneak peek in the trailers as to what they look like and the technology has made them look so lifelike. It’s going to be interesting to see how many dragons we will be able to spot throughout the season because of how wicked they look. There could be a total of 17 dragons, but if the series gets extended and we get more seasons, they could end up spreading them out over time.

Reason 4. Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen

Even though Matt Smith played Doctor Who for a while, having him as a Targaryen is going to be interesting. He is such a unique actor and it will be fun for him to take on a different role entirely. The blonde wig does suit him as a Targaryen and he may steal the spotlight from the others. Smith has made comments about his many sex scenes in the show and his charm as the Doctor will most likely garner more viewers on Sunday nights. Having Smith in a new series after flying under the radar post-Doctor is one of the main reasons why people are also drawn to this show and casting.

Reason 5. Powerful Female Leads

Much like Game of Thrones, the women made the show. Even though Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) was a favourite all the way through, the women were the powerhouses. From Dany to Cersei (Lena Headey) to Sansa (Sophie Turner) in later seasons, and of course little Arya (Maisie Williams), they all stole the spotlight. So it’s only fitting that House of the Dragon carries that out and allows the women in this series their moments to shine. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) is essentially the first woman to take the Targaryen throne and her best friend Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) are the women to look out for. Their relationship is what carries this season through and there is so much that is intertwined with their story.

House of the Dragon will be premiere on August 21st, 2022 and will release episodes weeky.

You will be able to watch this series with a subscription to HBO Max.
