10 films like the Korean Netflix film Seoul Vibe you must watch

1987: When the Day Comes (2017)

Jang Joon-hwan’s 1987: When the Day Comes is based on actual events that led to the June Democratic Uprising in Korea, which led to a student death and coverup by the police. Critics compared the story structure to a “relay race” of plot points and characters.

A Taxi Driver (2017)

A fantastic true story of journalist Jurgen Hinzpeter’s time with Kim So-ok, a taxi driver who helped him cover the Gwangju Uprising in 1980, a time when it was illegal for foreign journalists to be there. This is a terrific film, with another stellar Song Kang-ho performance. A Taxi Driver gives you a glimpse of what the young characters of Seoul Vibe were fighting for.

Baby Driver (2017)

Edgar Wright’s brilliant heist film has a killer soundtrack and a ragtag team of bank-robbing thieving psychos with one kind soul driving the getaway car. My favorite film of 2017, no other film was as exciting or satisfying that year.

The Fast and Furious (2001)

A stylized inspiration for Seoul Vibe. The Fast and the Furious also features a young group of rebels who love to drive fast and take what they feel is rightfully theirs.

Fast Five (2011)

Features the same stylized infatuation with fast cars. However, now combines the group of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and the company who end up working for agents of the Diplomatic Secret Service who were initially sent down to catch them. Oh, and one of them is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Lastly, Tokyo Drift embodies Seoul Vibe‘s spirit, following a group of young men and women who want nothing more than to perform the perfect drift.

Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)

Fast cars, a terrific cast, and high-speed chases as the group led by Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, and Robert Duvall steal 50 classic cars in one night. Gone in Sixty seconds is hip and ultra-cool.

The Italian Job (2003)

An homage to the 1969 original, this fast-paced caper film follows an eclectic group of thieves (Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Giovanni Ribisi, and Jason Statham) who attempt to steal gold from a former associate who double-crossed them (played by Edward Norton). You will never look at Mini Coopers the same way again.

Seoul, 1988 (2018)

A comprehensive documentary covering the entire 1988 Olympics in Seoul was released 30 years after it was made. This documentary is unique because it covers sports essential to Korean culture, all while giving us important insight into the country during a time of momentous change.

Special Delivery (2022)

Another Korean action spectacular star, Parasite‘s Park So-Dam, is Eun-ha, a woman with a talent for making risky and unusual deliveries for various shady characters.
