I Am a Killer is a Netflix series in its third season that follows the devastating, shocking, and brutal stories of some of the most shocking crimes. With deep and personal interviews with the murderer, their loved ones, and the family/friends of the victim, the show is a fascinating insight into the horrors of these crimes.

It starts by telling that every year in the United States, more than 8,000 people are convicted of murder. Yet, fewer than 50% of them actually confess to their crimes. It’s quite horrifying stats that really makes you think. And as we soon learn, Episode One, “A Question of Loyalty”, is the story of inmate #80172. And that inmate is Victoria Smith, who is in prison for 25 years after killing her husband. It’s one hell of a story to start with, and there will be many opinions on Twitter about this particular case. Other episodes within the series are “Someone Else”, “History Repeating”, “Blackout”, “Rolling the Dice”, and “A Bad Day”.

Overall, it’s a whirlwind of emotions. Take episode one, for example. After the killer (Victoria) shows regret and remorse, any feelings of compassion soon change when you meet the victim’s sister. And due to the number of twists in the tale, it doesn’t stop there.

These stories are dark and distressing. Although there’s nothing graphic on screen, it’s how the people on screen reflect and detail the crimes that are painful to watch. Throughout the series, it continues to shock. Despite one of the killers publically declaring their guilt, there are some relatives that refuse to believe what’s been said. And these individuals are not easily led; they have serious “proper” jobs that prove their intelligence.

Overall, I Am a Killer is an uncomfortable watch; there’s no other way to describe the show. But it’s a great watch that will totally please true crime fans. The only downfall to the show is that it’s reduced its normal amount of 10 episodes to 6. Why? Fans would have loved more!
