As we’ve stated in our review, this has been a fantastic series to watch. A little British gem on Hulu. A murder mystery with a tinge of comedy, giving that binge-worthy run.
As season 1 ends, we are left with a cliffhanger, making audiences wonder if a second helping is on the horizon.
Hulu’s Wedding Season (2022) season 1, episode 8 recap – the ending explained
After the killer, Metts, is exposed, and Katie endures a showdown with The Block, she realizes she loves Stefan. She’s completely in love with him. Remember episode 1, where she rejects him ruthlessly at her wedding? The ending of the series shows love and honesty, something that has been amiss in the story from this character.
And with this realization, Katie not only exposes Metts, but she decides to make a deal with The Block, removing her vicious vengeance story with the Delaneys. It’s a risky move that could have killed her, but she manages to pull it off. Katie picked an everyday life over a revenge mission. She was tired. She realized the life she could have had rather than dwelling in the past.
But in true murder mystery fashion, this action comedy decides to leave the audience with their pants down. At the end of episode 8, Katie and Stefan enjoy drinks at a bar, relishing their love. Stefan must feel he has struck gold; his intuition that Katie was the woman for him paid off, despite the violence and pain that came with it. It felt like Katie and Stefan had reached tranquillity and peace in their relationship.
And so, the couple leaves the bar, and Stefan is too drunk to drive. Katie takes the lead and offers to drive for both of them, but as she reaches the car, it explodes. Her recent actions have come full circle, and she feels the blunt of a violent reaction.
Stefan stands, shocked. Is the love of his life dead in the blink of an eye? Is this rollercoaster love story over already?
Well, the ending of Hulu’s Wedding Season decides to leave the audience with blue balls. There’s no confirmation if Katie is dead or alive.
However, considering the ending, we would suspect that Katie is alive, and if Hulu decided to renew the series for a second season, it would be revealed that the blast hurt her but did not kill her.
That’s our theory, anyway. But, also, there’s a possibility that the second season opens up with a funeral, with a distraught Stefan watching on as Katie’s coffin is lowered into the ground — Funeral Season.
It would be a shame if she is dead, but then again, it would add irony to Stefan’s character development. Once again, he’d have to use his desperate, hopeless romantic approach to find another “love of his life.”
